I'm not sure that that'd give the same magic as playing as Ori in the quest to save Ku and Naru. Characters built up over 2 games and loved by many. I know it wouldn't for me. What you're suggesting sounds almost like a reboot of the game as a DLC. Sadly, I can't see that working, nor being a realistic project.
What if we instead got to play on as Ku? The game assets are already in there, and it would give more much needed time with her. We would explore the lands in a different way but still within the confines of the 2D map, explore a few new zones specifically built around some level of flight ability, and maybe even find some other owls somewhere. A whole hell of a lot has been sacrificed for Ku; she kind of has a responsibility to achieve her own greatness. A thought.
Bosses DLC like Godhome from Hollow Knight, maybe + some additional bosses. That would be nice.
Yu can fight with bosses after ending the game: Just pick your save and use option Quick Access. You can do there all boss fights and escape sequences without starting a new game. There is even a timer and leaderboards to check how fast you can defeat a boss.
I could see something like Ku and Ori finding a hidden entrance as they travel through the Silent Forest (in the story), where they have to work together to solve the riddle and get the reward. Maybe even something where you have to switch between controlling Ori and Ku. Optional of course.
But the only way to implement more sections like these is to implement them directly into the story mode. No after, or before.
Jokes aside, I'd still prefer multiple endings, as I'm a fan of multiple endings.
It gives re-playability for seeing all the endings, and motivation to finish the game 100%.
I kinda liked Sundered for its 3 endings. Even if they were not colossally different, but all of them were unique and even changed the final bosses for each.
Or what about something crazy, like a Ku and Ori adventure, but with multiplayer. Grow the sales a little. The map is already done, drop some co-op puzzles at it and you are good to go.
So, it is technically the same map, with different loadout loaded for the multiplayer with Ku and Ori.
Yeah, Ku would need a few new abilities for that one.
Also I think that Howl has very little amount of time in the game. Remember, we fought with him at the very beginning and... that's it. Yeah, we can find his stone corpse in the Silent woods, but... what? He didn't even try to catch Ori and take revenge. He just ran out and died by unknown accident (maybe it was Shriek or just Decay). So pity that he has such short story cause he was the most atmospheric boss in the game: music, running part, visual concept etc. I think such death is suitable, but It would be nice if we met him at least one more time.
So I hope Moon will release some fixes with patch/definitive edition/dlc. In addition, as i think, it should contain cut out Corlek mines, some another locations (with waterfalls from trailer, for example) and, maybe, the story of the second egg that was laying with shriek's one at the moment of her birth.
Ku DLC will require a lot of changes in the gameplay which we already could find during sequence when Ori and Ku unite and try to get feather. As an extra it was good, but it isnt a material for an entire DLC.
Maybe like in Ori and the Blind Forest we will get DLC which will give us more information about past. This time, about what happened in Niwen.
