Don't want to spoiler you too much, but I also spent like an hour to figure out the obvious: bring some heat to the ovens!

I found this bit frustrating as well. I feel more could be done to show players how things work and also to remind them. I mean, Ori has a Navi sprite, so the ability to give clues and reminders is right there in the game.
Yeah, I also think part of the problem was that you're not supposed to be able to get out of that pit area where you first are supposed to learn about the stoves without solving the puzzle. Had I been trapped there I would have found the stove quickly and known the mechanic but since you can use the fireball made by the cauldron to escape I figured that is what it was for and chalked up the pointlessness of the area to be due to the fact everything's going to be unfrozen at some point.
