White Screen Freeze\Crash - Preliminary Information \ Fix
Hey folks,

Some folks are having an issue where the game (Patch 3.1) is crashing \ freezing on a white screen when you try to boot it,

I don't have all the final info yet but wanted to try and help those who have this issue-
It seems that this issue happens on Preview windows builds, specifically the Dev builds.

If you get the latest regular release or even the latest Beta from the Insider program, it should be fine.

I've already confirmed this with a few users, would appreciate if more folks could confirm,

Thank you!

Ok thank you very much! Makes sense for me, I'm having this issue since build 20262. The thing is it's not easy to switch back to a previous build or to switch from the Dev to the Beta channel without doing a clean install. However in the latest Dev build they already mention some games crashing as a known issue https://blogs.windows.com/windows-insider/2021/01/06/announcing-windows-10-insider-preview-build-21286/
I guess it's the same with this one, hopefully they'll fix it soon!

That build is still Windows Preview Dev... So it has the issue,
You need to exit the program or switch to a Windows Preview Beta to solve it,
Or wait for Microsoft to release a fix :(

Not getting a crash on boot, but the game is silently crashing on exit. Logs this error each time:

Only started happening since patch 3. I can confirm through the beta tab, that patch 2 build is free of this issue.

Wait, so you guys aren't working on a fix, and are just waiting for Microsoft to fix it?

While I have no intention to defend their support... are you really expecting them to fix a broken OS? They are making a game for OS and not the OS itself. Preview and developer builds are not for general usage, they can be unstable and can have serious bugs in them. It is literally not their job to make their game working on developers and preview builds. Someone who uses these versions of their OS should expect something to be not working.

And there even information presented that other games also crashing on these Windows builds. Do you want for Moon Studios to stop fixing their game and start fixing Windows? :ori:

Hey,
SenMithrarin85 - That is a separate issue, its not what this thread is about

gonen204 - Since this is a temporary issue, only affecting preview development builds and not even the Beta build, and since Microsoft is already aware of this and will fix it, it doesn't make sense for us to address this, sorry for the inconvenience

No they should make the game run, not fix the OS of course. I'm not on any dev build and the game still whitescreens and crashes for me.

Currently on Insider Preview build 21292, still crashes. It actually opened fine the first time I tried it (in a while), but still couldn't get it to output audio.

EDIT: Okay, it crashes once in a while. The game actually loads pretty consistently, so that's good....however, I still can't get it to play any audio. The game always starts with the wrong audio output listed in audio options. Switching it to correct output doesn't allow it to play sound, and it still shows incorrectly on the next launch.

My build number is 19042.746 Windows Pro ver. 20H2, I encounter this issue and cannot play the game on my Desktop. I have it also installed on my laptop that one worked.

I'm currently on build 21296 and it's still the same. For me it's been like this since the issue started, sometimes it crashes at launch and sometimes it manages to launch but audio doesn't work at all. I hope they fix it soon.
