How to get out of this pool?

In Luma Pools, near where it comes back into Inkwater Marsh after circling around underwater. I have reactivated the water wheels in the wellspring but have not yet returned to Kwolok to report.

Was able to get into the pool and grab a pickup on the left side (though I touched the spikes in the process), but couldn't figure out any way to get back out.

There was an underwater vine that shot projectiles I could bash from, but the horizontal wall just under the entrance (top-right) prevents the shots from getting high enough to be useful in getting out. I eventually killed the vine out of desperation to see if that would do anything.

I finally gave up and warped to a spirit well (which required leaping out of the water onto a wall, because apparently warp doesn't work in water for some reason..?), but there's no guarantee I would have had the warp-to-wells skill, and in any case I can't imagine that was intended to be the only way out.

What's the deal here?

You shouldn't be able to get there before acquiring Swim Dash ability. And if you have Swim Dash - you are perfectly able to get out.

I gave it a try considering you don't have the Triple Jump or the other 2 mid/end game skills yet

I don't have Swim Dash. (Or at least, I don't recognize the name, so I assume I don't have it.)

What was supposed to stop me getting in? I think the narrowest maneuver I did was a bit to the left of this area, where crossing the raised horizontal area right before this pool involved provoking a vine to shoot diagonally up-and-right, chasing the shot out of the water, bashing from it in mid-air, mid-air dash to the right narrowly above spikes, and then grappling something.

That was impressive. I wouldn't have thought you could grab on to the edge of the spike row like that.

I should note for completeness that this doesn't make it impossible to get stuck, because it's possible to kill that vine, and then you can't get far enough away for it to respawn.

I don't want to spoil Swim Dash - you are getting it in Luma Pools. But if you not able to get out with that not trivial Bashing as you were able to get in, then it is, you are stuck because you were able to trick the game and get in early. Normal way to get in and out is by using Swim Dash.

I completely agree. I vaguely remember getting stuck there as well on my first run because of accidentally killing the vine. Without the teleport skill, the only way out is to drown or exit the game.

It is possible to get out of there even without triple jump, it's not easy but doable.
Get on left wall, you need to jump right then left to reach left side of that opening, there is enough space there to stick to wall and not hit spikes. With just a double jump it has to be performed near perfectly and I think I also used hammer aerial upwards strike to give me extra elevation [edit] sorry that was on litghless/shardless playthrough so no hammer.

It's a risk you take when you sequence break a game like this. Ideally a game should be designed so that you can't permanently get yourself stuck, and Metroidvanias traditionally are, but as they have gotten more complex it's sometimes very difficult for the developers to find every possible way of getting yourself stuck if you exploit ability combinations to get to areas before you're supposed to be able to.

I didn't know I was sequence breaking. I did harder bashings in the first game that appeared to be the intended way to get past things.

Swim Dash is the only way out of there. Try loading a backup save from the menu.
