I just finished the game and while it was amazing I have a few complaints
My complaints being minor and directed towards the achievements. Firstly, if anybody can finish this game in under 4 hours you are insanely dedicated. You have to memorize this game almost perfectly to get through every section with no faults. Lord knows I kept messing up.

Secondly, the main issue i'm having is the "complete the trail without dying" and the "don't touch any corrupt water" how do these work? Let's say I make a small misstep and get killed by one of the 1 shot mechanics. Does this mean I have to restart the game completely just to get the achievement? Same for the corrupt water one, if I get smacked out of the air and into the water once does this mean I have to completely restart my game?

I'm planning to go for a 100% run my next time around but these kinda make it seem impossible or overly tedious.

Lastly, my biggest gripe with the game during my playthrough was that some areas felt like they didn't give the player enough information to play without a mistake. There were some moments during running sections where I had to jump to stuff that wasn't even on my screen and I had no idea where to go until I died and saw what location i'm supposed to be aiming for.

SPOILER:

This especially with the fight vs Shriek, the ending of it where she destroys the entire platform and you have to fight in air caught me off guard and I thought I was supposed to start running again, ended up jumping off the cliff like 4 times before I realized the game intended for me to fight mid-air when I noticed the laser things didn't stop falling. (Using deflect in her face when she's about to burp dark balls at you is hilarious, it one shot her at that point)

I disliked the fact when you fall into the mud where those bubbles are that you can jump on and bounce off. Once you fall you sink and that is it.

Good points and I agree but the purpose of the game is to die.

When I very first got to that area I thought the bubbles were just there to show you the thing was dangerous didn't know you could jump on them. Tried leaping over it and died instantly when I hit it lol

Speedrun achievement: you're not going to complete all exploration in under 4 hours. You can skip Luma Pools, Mouldwood Depths, Baur's Reach after unlocking Light Burst, Windswept Wastes after unlocking Burrow, and Windtorn Ruins by using the game's built-in speedrun exploit to gain early access to Willow's End from Silent Woods. Death traps and corrupted water: load a backup save from the main menu to before these incidents occurring and play forward.

All others: it's a platformer with live and learn experimentation. On my first foray through Silent Woods I tried to Bash off the bubbles. When I finally bounced I got the idea.

Speedrun achievement isn't hard you can skip like 50% of the game on low difficulty and still increase your health bar to ~10 and it's sufficient to kill every boss (don't forget to get tree buffs that boost your damage by 25% because it is really easy to get and it will be helpful in fights).I wasn't trying hard and did speedrun achievement on the first try in 3 h and 10 minutes or so.You should just check whole map and keep it open in steam overlay so you won't get lost.No dying is harder but i did it in the same playthrough. You might cheese it by just loading up your previous save if you die but it still not that much important because on that difficulty you can die only in rare occasions like wrong jump in location with darkness or last phase of the final boss.

They are called achievements for a reason.

You can easily experience 100% of the game without coming anywhere near 100% achievements.

Now brace for it - back in the day games didn't have achievements at all.

It generally worked better too because you didn't have achievement notification poping out during highly immersive moment or emotional scene completely ruining the mood.

I view the most difficult achievements as being aimed at people who like the game enough to play through it several times and become intimately familiar with it. Trying to get things like Immortal or Look at the Time on your second playthrough sounds immensely frustrating to me. Once you know the game like the back of your hand, though, it simply becomes a fun challenge.

If your ultimate goal is all achievements, I suggest replaying the game several times, each time seeing how much closer you can get. Try and get satisfaction by seeing your death count / time to completion go down after each playthrough.
I finished the game in 3 hours on my 2nd run of the game and I didn't even use spirit shards or spend any spirit light (normal difficulty)

If you're trying 100% achievements and want it easy, just pick easy mode. They're still valid for easy mode. For immortal, just take your time, and be prepared for what could happen (specifically just bosses since they lock you in an area and force you to fight) It's actually hard to die on easy unless you're just jumping into spikes on purpose.

Are we sure bosses count? I don't think Motay reports deaths during boss fights or chase sequences.

Deaths at Bosses and Escape Sequences do not count in stats and my friend still received the Immortal achievement without reloading the backups after dying to Worm Escape multiple times.

Thanks for confirming my theory. The guide I wrote assumes they don't count. Hopefully that wasn't just a developer oversight that will be "fixed" in a future patch.

My only complaint (minus the issues) was the ending, it genuinely left me in a dreadful state almost to the point I was actually grieving the loss of someone. Apart from that no I have no complaints whatsoever and I will go back to it again on many occasions in future at some point no doubt.

I have to agree with TheForestSpirit on the finale. Let's face it, Ori came from a tree and we've seen in the previous game that the Spirits ultimately become trees so we knew this was coming eventually in some form, but instead of guiding Ori to some joyous ascension I felt I like I just shot a friend or a pet to put them out of their misery. Other than that and the onerous Sandworm escape, I liked the puzzles and platforming gameplay.

I'm going to slightly disagree with you on the under 4 hour achievement.
After I completed the game in normal to 100% in about 13 hours of play, I started on Easy, and even with a few mistakes and wasted time, I finished in 3 hours 30 mins.

I didn't have to memorise where to go, because you only really have one route to each boss.

The other points I agree.
Those achievements aren't clear whether starting a new game is necessary if you fail them.
And a fair few things need to be learnt by mistake/death/guessing, which feels cheap, but I've been playing games so long I'm used to it now, trial and error.
JonoAMano May 10, 2020 @ 3:01pm
Psymon², when I said "all exploration" I meant 100% map exploration in every zone with 100% item collection, not just breezing through each zone. I've done nook and cranny completion playthroughs, and my most efficient time thus far was just under 6 hours.

ah, i skipped over your comment, sorry.

I was referring to the achievement which OP was talking about.

Look at the Time
Complete the Game in Under 4 Hours

This doesn't need 100%, just finish the main story, beat the final boss.
Hence how I did it in 3h30m on easy, save slot says 69% (nice).
