Black Screen ( Fixed )
Dear developers, why do I have to install the Unity game engine so that your game just turns on. If I had not been a developer myself, in my life I would never have thought of fixing a black screen like this when loading a game.
Life hack. Install the Unity engine. And the game will start !!!

There's a redist for Unity available online? Link?

I'm aware of that. Guess I should have said free redist.

:o looking at the crashlogs this idea came to me too -- it seems like they never compiled it for retail!?

i'm going to poop my pants if this works, i've tried everything else (have the day off work)... at my wits' end lol.

I can verify that this works! Everything is running slow and choppy atm... soooooooo onto the next issue lol

Most likely it’s not the engine itself, but Visual Studio and its libraries

Which version of unity did you install? i installed 2018.4.11 as cited in the output.log but it still crashes at startup for me.

For me its a bit weirder with the blackscreen. The game starts and ori runs in the loading screen. Then he disapperes and nothing happens (just a black screen from then on). Also if i open the steam overlay i cant close it again to return to the blackscreen (closing attemps leads to a faint steam overlay that i can make fully present again by shift+tab).
Any idea how to fix this?

I managed to get past the loading screen only when I exit steam and run the game directly from the install folder.

@FairyLuy ok i was about to install unity and tried your method and now it works both via steam and installation folder. What a weird bug but thanks.

This describes my crashing too -- but i have found a workaround that maybe will help you. First off, i have an old Soundblaster X-Fi that MS published games always seem to have trouble with, usually this same exact issue happens and i can fix it by changing audio default format --

right click volume icon on desktop right corner->open volume mixer->click speaker->advanced tab->change audio default format. if it is set to 16-bit, 48000hz it MIGHT work. if not, go to step two:

change audio device completely. If your monitor has audio out, try switching to it. In my case it is currently running on an Audioengine D1 USB DAC. With this, the game is able to boot and i'm playing it with minimal audio 'buzzing' and it runs decently enough to enjoy at this point with minimal loading pauses.

I just want to say this fixed my problem! Confirmed by trying to switch bach to my X-Fi midgame - sound just lagged a bit and the game crashed. Thanks!
