I know that means eye of cuthulu is comming but do you need a certain amount of health or mana or something?

normaly this phrase appears when you destroy one of these dark balls in the corruption. If you destroy three of them the eater or worlds will spawn. For summoning the eye of ctulhu you need a strange looking eyeball and use him at night.

I don't know how but I ended up getting it randomly in previous updates, and then getting EoC
after me... As for defeating him that isn't really hard at all you could do It with no armor and a wooden bow (although not recommended for newbies) aslong as you have an arena or a very long straigt path in which you can easily run back and forth.

if you have over 200 HP, 3 NPCs, and have not beaten EoC on the current world yet, that message has a 1/3 chance of appearing every night. It means EoC will spawn that night, unless you are in the underground layer; in which case he will spawn as soon as you reach ground level again if it is still night.

To get that to happen you need 200 MAX HP, more then 12 Defence and 3 NPCs. When you meet these requirements, it can spawn naturally with a 1/3 chance every night. It will spawn exactly 81 seconds after the message "You feel an evil presence watching you..." appears. If you exit the world (If its single player) before the EoC (Eye of Cuthulu) comes, the spawning event will not occur, it also won't happen if you stay in a layer below the surface, but it will appear once you leave the lower layer, if you stay till morning, it won't spawn, this doesn't carry over to the next night.
