Ice Armor and the Mushroom Spear

Alright, so I found these two items by chance almost as soon I cleared WoF and entered hardmode. The problem is, the seem to be better than everything I'm finding, and it makes me sad to pick up so many cool new items that seem to be utterly obsolete now. Is there still better items out there, or am I pretty much stuck with this set for the rest of the game? Anyone else have similar stories/questions?

ive got like 10 of them. AFTER crafting the entire armor set. They have a higher drop rate than Hooks.

2. Why would you use that mismatched set if you're not doing it for vanity?

And then you pump up those minions with proper accesories and suddenly you never have to fight anything ever again by yourself.

Even with the Pygmy Necklace and the Hercules Beetle, I still can't beat most hardmode bosses with them :(
