can't figure out how to "use" the clothier doll

I thought this was going to be straightforward, but its not working. Even after I read a post and the wiki (both just saying what I'm trying anyway) I still can't get it to work. I have the clothier voodoo doll in my hotbar as my equipped item, and I have the clothier in a special "floor drops into lava" house. But when I press the switch to dump him, nothing happens. He falls in, he dies, I get a "soandso has been slain..." message, and nothing else. I've even tried to "use" the voodoo doll before and after he dies, and tried throwing it into lava. Nothing.

What am I missing?

you have to do the honors personally, as in, you gotta chop im into itty bitty small pieces , shoot him or blast him with magic

Havn't done it myself but I heard you need to have it equipped and then kill him with lava or traps.

This. Contrary to what Serpentarius said the voodoo doll doesn't actually allow you to attack the clothier directly. You have to have it equipped in your accessories slot and then use some form of trap to murder the clothier.

This. Contrary to what Serpentarius said the voodoo doll doesn't actually allow you to attack the clothier directly. You have to have it equipped in your accessories slot and then use some form of trap to murder the clothier.

and seeing as he has already trie that to no effect it's clearly wrong

Yeah, I actually noticed he said he had it on his hotbar which is not the same thing as the accessories slot. Thanks for providing incorrect information as if it were factual though. That was super helpful.

Yeah you just equip it and then kill him with boulders or lava or something I've done so about three times to re-summon Skeletron.

to summon one of the bosses you have yo drop the vodoo doll in the lava in hell. also beating this boss causes hard mode to start
