Ropes
Im digging the new rope, it seems pretty usefull specially early on. However it does seem strange to me how you can build rope vertically into the sky. Also when the rope is broken it stays in place, which I can understand if theres a wall support behind it but to just have it floating in the sky?
I feel as easly accessible as the rope is, it should act more like the torch and have to be attached to an object or else it will fall. Also you should only be able to feed a rope down not up.
Just an idea, what do you think?

I agree, having it go straight into the sky, while nice is...slightly op. But having it act like a torch I think would cause more problems than its worth.

Also, glad theres finally a thread on ropes that doesn't involve someone asking how to use them.

Consider this - Ropes don`t allow you to do anything you couldn`t already do with a number of blocks and a grapple, they`re simply more convenient when it comes to vertical movement. I wouldn`t call them OP unless the rest of the game suddenly decided that an arrangement of blocks needs support or it`ll crumble in o itself.

while that ropes are a good add in the game they practiacly useless now we can make graple hook with gems

They aren't useless, they make vertical movement (up or down) faster. You can slide down a rope at falling speed, and you can ascend faster than with a grapple.

Might not seem like much for individual jumps, but for hellevators the difference is huge.

I personally love the rope, its great for early starts until you get the materials for grapples or such, just as wooden platforms used to do.

What I wanna see with ropes is horizontal placing. Like using a rope coil to throw to another surface which you can't jump to due to the size of the gap or whatever. I wouldn't mind seeing a crafting recipe either using the loom or whatever.

I wish you could go horrizontally along them faster like a zip line, but you only shimey along it.

And anyone else find it odd you carry that rope climbing thing with you, but its not in your inventory?...I know having it craft only would suck, but still it made me think.

Hey thanks for all the replys and discussion. I only feel the rope is slightly OP when compared to other Early Game items.

You could build upward with normal blocks but it takes time to collect those blocks and their also solid so you can only build stairs. Having a none solid block tends to be more useful specially in tight areas where you can build a ladder.

So compared to the Wooden platform it makes the platform almost useless specially for cave exploring.
Also compared to others blocks this one can be easily purchased so making a sky ladder or stocking up for cave exploring will be easier then ever.

Normally I would cut down 15 or so trees to make wooden platforms just to get to the bottom of 1 deep cave.

Honestly i like it, I would just use dirt for the same effect and would just have to tear it down later. It made my tunnels look awful and just got in the way, This however is a simple fix that gets the same effect and has a nice exploring feel.

Oh yeah I like the rope too, it feels so natural like its been missing from Terraria this whole time. I only wish it acted more like rope. Not only how they build up but how they build sideways makes them harder to use. Like i'll be trying to build just 1 straight rope but it starts going everywhere and I get somthing that resembles a waffle. lol

my faviourite part is the rope coils. useful for climbing out of deep caves and up large trees.

DAmmit! I didn't even think about using rope to climb up into the sky! I used a ton of blocks to get up there and try to find islands...lol

Well...this is good news. :D:

I use the wood platforms for fighting enemies more than anything.

While I dig down in the caves I leave one block before I drop into a room, and drop a wood platform next to it. Then break the block and stand on the platform while I shoot arrows, or magic at the enemies below in large openings. It keeps you away from falling into a crowd of mobs.

I know what you mean. The floating rope thing is kinda weird....
I agree that it'd be a good idea to have to "anchor" the top end of the rope, like actual rope.... If they were going to allow people to build it up, instead of throw it down, they should probably have made it ladder pieces instead of rope. Just a thought.
I've got no complaints though, so that's always a good thing XD I just don't use it much 'cause I have wings. lol

Yeah wooden platforms are great for fighting enemies and their also faster traveled then solid blocks. Also ladders are a great idea. TBH I havn't really messed around with rope coils. They seem to function much more like normal rope. I think i'll just convert all the rope i find into coils and use them instead. Until I get wings that is lol
