How do hardmode ores generate?

I mean, obviously they arn`t in the world pre-hardmode. So how does the game decide where the ores generate? Also, how does it load so many new things in the split second you beat the boss without a loading screen, or lag, or anything?

Wrong. You have to break Demon Altars with the Pwnhammer to get Cobalt, Myhril and Adamantite to spawn.

well I know that, but how does the game decide where in the world they do generate? Like is there a minimum and maximum depth that they spawn at? do the ores only spawn in the plains biome? Do the hardcore ores load over already spawned vains of other ores?

The first demon altar you smash generates cobalt, the second mythril and the third adamantite and this pattern continues (the fourth is cobalt, the fifth mythril etc.). Cobalt spawns closer to the surface than mythril, which spawns closer than adamantite.

its all in a randomized algorithm within the code, veins of the hardmode ores are placed everywhere in your world of varying sizes, it replaces whatever was there before it spawning, which could be anything from dirt to other hard mode ores (yes on occasion hard mode ore can spawn and replace other hardmode ore)
