Glitch where doors disappear from my house?
Has anyone else got this glitch? Doors that my NPCs use will randomly disappear. I haven't seen it in action yet, so I think it only happens off-screen. I go explore a dungeon or cave, and when I get back half of my house's doors are missing. They don't even drop as an item, like when enemies destroy them... I've noticed that it is only doors that the NPC's use, since doors on other floors without NPCs aren't affected. It's getting really annoying, because my NPCs are destroying their houses, and won't stay moved-in: As soon as the door disappears, the housing is not considered valid, so the NPC just wanders off... I've probably wasted two or three stacks of wood making replacement doors...

I've had a similar problem, but mine was next to a wiring thing. Honestly, I have no idea what causes it, and I hope it gets remedied in the update

I too have been having this problem. A simple yet dissatisying solution I use to avoid this is to make a standard house but use 2 wooden planks on the floor or the ceiling for access instead of a door. The NPCs can't invalidate a door if there isn't one. Unfortunately, there's a loss in aesthetics and it usually makes all my complexes look like penitentiaries for the Well-to-do, but it's the only thing I can think of until it's fixed.

Yeah, it's caused by NPCs alright. I'm not sure so don't take my word for it, but seems to me it happens when a door closes with an NPC extremely close to it. I believe the bounding box of sorts in the game's code that checks to see if there's something keeping the door from closing isn't quite the same shape as the actual closed door collision, so the game still allows for the door to close, but doesn't actually have enough room to spawn the closed door entity. Therefore the door simply vanishes from the game. That's really just a guess on my part, but it does make sense.

The only workaround I know of is the one Apnarg mentioned, create some sort of prison for NPCs so they don't go anywhere near your doors.

I use active stone to keep my npcs from wandering away. They can roam the house tower thing, but they ALWAYS kill themselves or get eaten outside. SO, I eliminated the ability for them to go outside, and it only takes a second for me to hit the switch.

I had thought about making an active stone wall to use as a door, but I already have my exit doors wired with pressure plates to close themselves automatically, but not open themselves. I just set the pressure plates two blocks away from the door, then put the wire one block away. When the door is open, it takes up that one extra block and touches the wire. When it is closed, the wire doesn't touch the door so it doesn't open. There isn't any way to do that with active stone, so zombies and shadow armors would be able to open the active stone by stepping on the plate, which would be a VERY bad thing...

I eventually found a way to keep them from wandering off when the doors are destroyed at least. I put all of them in floors that are under or above the floor with the exits, and there isn't any way to get to the exit floor without using platforms, which NPC's won't do. As a result, they just wander back and forth on their floor even after their door has been destroyed, since they can't reach the exit doors.

I've had my doors magically removed and then embedded into my walls, the bricks that were there previously were also gone. This happened during a Goblin Invasion though, so I'm not sure if that had something to do with it.

Try breaking block under disappearing door.

The doors that were embedded into your walls were probably from goblin wizards teleporting into the doorway and the door glitching. Not sure if that's possible, but it'd be my first guess.

active stone doors is a good idea. and im pretty sure the platform door type doesn't have to be enterable or exitable to count, just there (and 2 blocks wide). active stone moats are also awesome for blood moons.

It's really annoying because most of my doors are made of Rich Mahogany and the Jungle is in the other side of the world :(
