How do i get Shadow Scale?

Do i have to defeat a boss or something to get it? Or trade with a merchant?

Kill eaterofworlds who you can spawn by breaking3 shadoworbs andmaking wormbait

You need Shadow Scales and Demonite bars.

Shadow scales can only be obtained from defeating the eater of worlds (Its not nessesary to win completely, every section of the boss has a chance to drop some shadow scales).

Demonite bars can be made from Demonite ore, Demonite ore can be mined but its easier to get from killing the Eater of Worlds or the Eye of Cthulhu, both drop it.
