True Muramasa has auto-attack and it is faster, but let's do a little math. Muramasa has 18 base damage and a use time of 19, whereas Night's Edge has a base damage of 42 and a use time of 26. Thus, the damage/use time ratio of Muramasa is 0.95, while for Night's Edge it is 1.6. For DPS, Night's Edge is clearly a better sword.
However, I like Muramasa because of its auto-attack, fast speed, and also because it is longer than the Night's Edge (IIRC, not entirely sure.) Because of these things, I like Muramasa for harvesting my farms.
18-21(depending on Prefix) hitting 3-4 times a second is as much as 84 damage a second from the Muramasa, against 0 Defense. 42-48(depending on prefix) hitting 2-3 times a second is as much as 144 damage a second from the Night's Edge against 0 Defense.
Against hordes of enemies, especially those that lack a lot of Health and/or Defense, the Muramasa might make a superior defensive weapon, as it's high swing speed can keep enemies away *just* enough that they can't hit you in melee. But against less enemies, or ones with higher Health/Defense, the superior Knockback and Damage of the Night's Edge makes it superior, as it actually kills much faster.
If you are going on to Hardmode, the Night's Edge is vastly superior in DPS, since enemies have more defense, and the low Knockback of the Muramasa will not keep you safe as long.
tl;dr, Night's Edge DPS should beat the crud out of Muramasa no matter what.
