No monsters?
So I just got Terraria yesterday, so I have no ida how this game works. I've played for like 5 hours? Idk. But no monsters have spawned in the last 4 nights. Why? the only thing I can thik of that I did, was put some kind of statue down.....WHY ARE THERE NO MONSTERS???? I want to farm coins...
I'm on soft core, by the by. Just started the game so I wanted to learn the basics before I go hard.

I've had this happen, too. Usually it's after I'm pretty well established, but almost no mobs spawn if I'm in my home at night. I don't know what causes it.

However, there are plenty of places that have higher spawn rates (day and night), and more difficult mobs. Just head in one direction for a few minutes. Soon enough you'll hit Corruption or the Jungle. If you're careful, you can farm coins there.

Have you got all the NPCs? The more you have, the less monsters spawn around your base I think.

If you have 3+ NPCs within a relatively small range of each other, all monster spawns within a certain range are blocked. Having 1 or 2 lowers the spawn rate. Placing walls of your own, such as Brick Wall, also hinders monster spawning. Blood Moon nullifies the monster blocking traits of NPCs, which can lead to very chaotic events.

In the event of a Blood Moon, have a 2x2 pit next to any doors outside, where enemies would approach from, of your housing, it'll prevent them from breaking in.

If you want to fight all night on the surface, go a good distance away from where your NPCs are, and build a very simple house, just blocks, no Walls, to prevent the enemies from getting at you when you need a break. A safe zone if you will. Perhaps even place a Bed in it for easy access to where you are fighting in case you die.

I did the pit thing...Had no idea zombies could break in your house. I just did the pit thing cuz the banging the zombies were making was annoying

Be warn the pit thing is useless in Hardmode.

What pit thing?

I think he means the 2x2 pit. And it's not useless. The Hardmode version of the Zombie style enemy also fails to break down doors if there is a 2x2 pit in the way.
