GameRanger?
It seems GR would be a decent alternative to using Hamachi if you want to play over a VPN. Is there a reason folks don't use this to host/join Terraria games?

It's actually just a lot easier to set up a normal server. As long as you can log into your router.

Why did you repost this, I gave you an answer, Fatso here did too.

Your answer was to just set up a server and share the IP. This didn't answer my ?

If you can't be bothered to explain why people use and recommend Hamachi over GR why respond at all?

Then it's more then likely because no one knows what GR is...?

Pros: a free service, supports IM, Mac support (lol), and has dedicated server lists and browsing.

Cons:
The free service is ad-supported.
Access to support forums (to learn about the game and any technical issues) requires installation of GameRanger software -- which is absurd.

Yeah ... I didn't know what GameRanger was 'til I tried to play Borderlands with a friend and he recommended it.

Thank you dirrtygsharp. I thought maybe there was something majorly wrong with GR and that was the reason people weren't using it.

No sweat. Was curious about GR so I took a quick peek.

It's hard to compare GR with Hamachi though. GR has a specific set of features for online gaming and match-making. Hamachi has more general-purpose VPN and netwokring features that can also be used for gaming.
