does it matter if i let the corruption/hollow take over?
do i have to choose a side or can i just let them go crazy?

(i didnt want to make another discussion but im on hard mode and the wiki says im suppose to be a ghost when i die but im not, why not?)

You're confusing hardcore and hard mode. Hardcore is a difficulty you select when you create your character. When you select hardcore, you become a ghost when you die, and can't interact with the world. It deletes your character when you log out as a ghost. Basically, if you die your character is deleted.

Hardmode on the otherhand, occurs when you kill the wall of flesh, and simply affects the world, spawning more corruption and the hollow. It does not affect the difficulty of your character.

the corruption is bad... though i dont like the hollow.. it may be really f***ing hard but... what i wold do is fence off the corruption from as high in the sky... to the core of the earth... but make the wall be like 3 layers thick and then do the same with the hollow AFTER the hollow spawns... witch is almoast impossable. so you shold just probly stick with hollow..

Letting either run rampant is bad, as if the areas near your npc houses become too corrupt with corruption or hallow, they will move out. Also, letting it go wild would really suck, because you would have to constantly deal with the harder enemies they spawn.

Let the hallow run rampant as much as you can because corruption has the advantage and if it reaches your house your screwed because it will not let "corrupted" houses to house NPC or a bed ( well allow you to set spawn)

I don't know that either one is really worse. Although Corruption spawns those Defilers or w/e that have that spit attack that CREATES CORRUPTION so definitely keep an eye out for that. Oh, and when you kill them? Their bodies create Corruption too.

But yeah, make sure you have secured your homefront. If the housing becomes ineligible due to either one your npcs won't be able to respawn should they die. Secure a nice region around your house by digging out the entire area so your house is in the air or by making walls 3-5 blocks wide a distance away from your house, extending underground as well. Fill in with either bricks or snow blocks as sand, dirt, and stone can all be corrupted. I heard mud could also be corrupted by being turned into dirt first.

The gaps must be filled in because Corruption can be spread by the thorns that grow there. So either the walls 3+ tiles thick or a much, much larger gap of empty space.

Interesting advice - I just triggered Hard Mode myself, and I'm currently in the process of building a big barrier of wood between my base and the rest of the world. When that's done, THEN I'll start dealing with Corruption and Hallow...

Wish me luck!

Just make sure that your barrier extends underground! :)

just make your current base a huge friekin floating island on the ground, separating all the sides from any contact with any other blocks on the ground and make the holes as big as you can so that the game doesnt detect the corruption/hollow if it already has taken over the world. Oh, and make your base BEHIND the dungeon because the dungeon is like a bigass barrier that almost stretches to hell. this is what i would do before hardmode, and it is my expert choice of corruption/hallow/crimson defence (better if you do it before hardmode) this actually helps a ♥♥♥♥ lot, just do it.
Thank you for reading this if you did read it.
