Hardmode on the otherhand, occurs when you kill the wall of flesh, and simply affects the world, spawning more corruption and the hollow. It does not affect the difficulty of your character.
But yeah, make sure you have secured your homefront. If the housing becomes ineligible due to either one your npcs won't be able to respawn should they die. Secure a nice region around your house by digging out the entire area so your house is in the air or by making walls 3-5 blocks wide a distance away from your house, extending underground as well. Fill in with either bricks or snow blocks as sand, dirt, and stone can all be corrupted. I heard mud could also be corrupted by being turned into dirt first.
The gaps must be filled in because Corruption can be spread by the thorns that grow there. So either the walls 3+ tiles thick or a much, much larger gap of empty space.
Wish me luck!
Just make sure that your barrier extends underground! :)
That's what comes next. ;-)
