Waterfalls?

do waterfalls only have a certain number of tile spaces they are alowed to travel before it runs out of water? In the Picture I am trying to get a waterfall to run down the length of my roof and it stops halfway but I have read and I have seen waterfalls that occur naturally travel greater distances.

I think it depends on the amount of source water, but yes, they will eventually run out.

Edit: I've actually had the same waterfall change heights for no apparent reason. So I don't really know what's going on.

yes. They fade away after a long distance. Don't worry about it.

I have seen water fountains that seem to defy the logic of this question. I think there are certain circumstances in which a waterfall can travel farther distances. Larger water source, multiple watersources throughout the design, height in world in which the waterfall is built. Also I have seen awaterfal travelforever without having any noticeablewatersource continuing it at certain areas, in those circunstances I think it is a matter of how you hammer your blocks..

The water source is pretty big, an area of almost 300 to 400 blocks and every block on the slope is a half block. I was just asking to see if anybody had an answer that explained the mechanics behind how far a waterfall would go. The hieght in world is at 750 ft and I know I have seen "waterfalls" travel 4 screens on the surface of my world on a small slope with only one discernable water source.

I've seen water/lavafalls randomly change lengths while the game is paused...maybe it's to conserve memory

as others have said i think they change lengths, when i was mining my hellevator a waterfall went really far but when i went back up and down it was much shorter.
