Why Hamachi and not port forwarding? (also looking for some buddies, no hamachi)

Why do people prefer Hamachi over the port thingy?

I used both and Hamachi is more work for no reason.
Simple question.

Some people dont know how to / do not have access to port forwarding settings. e.g. if they are living in campus on uni network or with living with others or are computer illiterate.

While I disdain any mention of Hamachi and take pity on those who cannot port forward, for them it becomes the only way they can host most multiplayer games.

Solution: if someone asks you to add them to hamachi (DO NOT unless you know them VERY well. You open yourself a huge security hole), host games yourself instead and let them connect to you.

Hamachi is easier to use, even though it is more annoying/more work if you know how to forward ports. A lot of kids are playing this game who don't understand how port forwarding works, or have parents who won't let them access the router.
As Calmeo said, Hamachi is inferior to simply forwarding ports, so only use it when necessary.

Hamachi is for students at uni and software pirates only. The entire thing is a joke and I refuse to play with anyone that can't port forward.

Hamachi is pretty guaranteed to work, if only Terraria GAVE you an IP to give out instead of having to find yours out yourself which, when I tried that way, even WITH the port forwarded I couldn't connect to my own server even with the IP given by different sites.

If you are hosting the server on your own computer, the IP "127.0.0.1" will work (but only for YOU!). "localhost" is equal to "127.0.0.1", both point back to the computer that you are using them on, which is common knowledge.
Check your IP on whatismyip.com or any other site, if it doesn't work, you haven't forwarded your ports properly. Some routers have to be restarted for port forwards to become active, so you might want to try that as well.

Hamachi is convenient but not without risk. If you are using it with people you trust then there is usually no problem, even then someone can harm your computer without meaning to (for example many viruses spread over networks).

it looks like 99% of people forget all the time that not only router or port forwarding is the problem.
May I surprise some (yes, some) that the IP addresses are ending. Thus, some ISPs went mad and put like 1000-10000 users under one IP. this way, you must buy a dedicated IP from them. Port forwarding won't work.
Depends on countries though. I am a past victim of this, glad got rid of that crap now.
