The Shroomite Armor's "Invisiblity" is only an effect. It does reduce the amount of aggro you can draw but that only really works if you're playing with others.
The Plant Crystal thing from the Chlorophyte Armor is nice as it does ~30 damage, but it's got a rather decent physical damage buffs.
Which armor set you use really depends on your play style however; Chlorophyte for Melee, Shroomite for Ranged, and Spectre for Magic.
:D but you have to kill plantera to get it :O
Since I switched to Spectre Armour in combination with Magnet Sphere and Nimbus Rod, there has not been a boss that I could not comfortably solo. (1 exception: The Destroyer I use the magic harp for instead of the magnet sphere, inside a little mid-air killbox to keep probe lasers off my back. With spectre armour, my health doesn't drop from 500 for more than half a second)
Spectre Armour's set bonus is a healing effect for every bit of magical damage you deal out.
The high DPS of Magnet Sphere and the two clouds granted by the Nimbus Rod combined have made boss farming a very simple matter. Generally speaking, when fighting the Twins, Skeletron Prime, the Golem, or Plantera, I rarely drop below 400 health from my 500 max. The only time I've had to use potions since I adopted the new tactic is when luring Plantera to my arena or a large open space.
The healing effect is also handy for navigating hardmode dungeons and jungles solo instead of dying horribly while waiting for potion cooldowns. I am having much love for the Spectre Armour =D
However, if having fun in multiplayer, then it comes down to your preference, though I'd suggest at least one person with Spectre Armour in the group for healing support. Turtle Armour is fantastic for melee tanking, and Shroomite Armour is a lovely gift to those who want to sit back at range and rain hell upon the enemy with their favourite guns like a boss, like my friend does.
Really it's personal preference. They are, if used correctly, far superior to each other in differing situations.
The Chlorophyte set gives you 56 base defense, 21% damage and crit, 5% move speed and the ranged leaf crystal set bonus that does 30-40 damage at ~1/3 screen distance.
The Turtle set gives you 65 base defense, 14% damage, 12% crit, the multiplayer threat set bonus and the 100% thorns set bonus.
If you have a 'ranged' melee weapon like a boomerang or Terra Blade, Chlorophyte can win out because you will rarely get hit, so the thorns of Turtle would rarely get used, but the Chlorophyte leaf will hit a lot.
If you're going with a proper melee weapon, then you're likely to get hit in melee a lot so the extra defense and the 100% thorns will win out.
Note that the thorns from Turtle is not reduced by your defense. If they hit you for say, 12, you will take 1 damage, but the mob will take 12 back. This makes it excellent for fast hitting bosses like Plantera.
Nope. Sirlergen PRP is correct. You can't get hardmode dungeon mobs, which drop the Ectoplasm, until after you've killed Plantera.
In other news: Paladin is still scrooging me =D
