Titanium, Orichalcum, and Cobalt...
I've destroyed about 20 demon altars, and the message is always Palladium, Adamantite, or Mythril.

On the wiki, it says Titanium is an alternate to Adamantite... does that mean there is Titanium in my world now, because I got messages about getting Adamantite, or do I have to keep smashing altars until I see a specific message?

You only get ONE version. Never both. Your world has Adamantite, Orich and Cobalt. You'll never get Titanium and the other one in that world.

You get Cobalt OR Palladium on the first altar. You get Mythril OR Orichalcum on the second. You get Adamantite OR Titanium on the 3rd.

From then on it repeats the same 3 you were given. You get one or the other, never both.

So if I want the three I didn't see in the messages when destroying a demon altar, I just have to keep starting worlds, get to hardmode, and then destroy some altars to see if I get it?

Ah, just saw the second response, thanks. That explains it.

Right each world only gets one of the two types. Why do you want the other 3?

Titanium and Orichalcum are actually superior to Adamantite and Mithril, and Cobalt is inferior to Palladium. Wanting Cobalt could just be for the sake of collection, but wanting Ori or Titan would make sense as they blow their counterpart sets out of the water.

Yeah. You'll know the moment you have destroyed 3 altars what ores you've gotten and whether to skip that world or keep smashing.

Also, with the slushes and silt and the converter machine, you can get the ores that are not in your world.

That doesn't seem to work with Hardmode ores though. I tried about 1000 Slush(slush is the plural of slush.) and never saw any hardmode ores, despite being in Hardmode and wearing full Palladium.

Yeah, it only works for pre-hardmode ores/gems/coins and the amber mosquito. You can't get anything else out of it which is why i've always seen it as very questionable in value.
