Lol no worries, but that's the basics of making a "house". Or at least what the game considers to be a sealed room. It must have walls and backwall that you placed yourself otherwise it's considered spawnable areas.
This is important as these are the only places that NPCs and Beds can be placed/housed. Very important when you want to build a lil shack to respawn at if you're fighting a boss that's very hard and you die a lot.
Do note also that certain enemies can spawn outside but go through blocks like Wraiths and Reapers. Other can shoot through walls like the Mushroom Plant Monsters that shoot spores through walls.
Wrong. If a player places dirt walls him/herself, then it's fine. The naturally occuring ones will have to be knocked down first.
Also note that all of those are hardmode enemies you won't have to worry about for quite a while :P
It's been like this since 1.0.6.
I don't remember, but NPC require a Chair, Table, AND a Light source to live in a room so you're going to want to keep it lit anyways.
[Edit] Oh and having NPCs living in your house also lower spawn rates around the house so you'll notice less and less Zombies and Eyeballs trying to bump your walls and doors down.
-This doesn't effect special events like Blood Moons, etc however.
