No,why?
catus armor is close to copper armor and the eye of cthulu will wreck you if u do not have good wepons and armor.
And also if u do not have a enough health.

It's not the best you can get at that stage but it's possible.

You can even do it with no armor.

At the average skill level, no.
Bookshelf Oct 15, 2013 @ 3:26pm
You can do it with good weapons

If you're good, then you can go for it. If you're average and you have average tools, you're probably going to die. But if you want a challenge, I guess you can.

Definitely possible with less than 200 health, some potions a few shurikens and a cactus armor, no problems.

I usually take on the eye whenever I get the chance as long as I have some shurikens. Armor doesn't really matter for him as he's rather easy to avoid in the first stage and shurikens will rip him apart. If you find better weapons/armor to fight him with before taking him on (like the materials for a diamond staff) then all the better but they're not necessary.

yes it is possible but try to get a ironskin potion for the fight and make sure you can easily run. You will probs have to upgrade for the 2nd boss though so you might as well just get the armour and then do both. :) full iron + works great.

Go to the corruption/crimson and break an orb to get a gun. This will allow you to deal about 20-25 ranged damage per shot (not counting crits). Arms dealer will then show up (if housing is available). Buy a few hundred musket balls from him and you shouldn't have much of a problem if your defense is lowish (full cactus and a defensive item or two, 5-10 defense plus ironskin potion and a bowl of soup) even with 160 +/- health. What is your current health anyway?

EDIT: Also, build an elevated wooden platform about 25 feet up in the air, about 1.5 - 2 screens wide. Place torches on it. This will let you shoot at him while he is below you.

Sure, there's a large number of weapons you can use against him but those two are the best for an early game character simply because it's likely that you have them and they're piercing so if you get right under him and throw straight up they can hit him twice. Not to mention killing those annoying little eyes he shoots in the first stage.

Another good choice though are the gem staves like the diamond staff that I mentioned. They have limited piercing capabilities but if fired at the right angles have a chance to hit him twice as well. They also do more damage but require mana to use. The amethyst staff doesn't pierce though so try to avoid that one. Vilethorn also works well but you'd have had to break at least one shadow orb to get that which will likely come AFTER the eye rather than before.

If you don't have the mana/materials for magic weapons then pretty much any ranged weapon will do for the fight as long as it's better than the basic wooden one. Spears can also work well but the closer you have to get to hit him, the more likely you are to mess up and get hit back.
