Hardmode too hard now?
So I made a new world with the crimson and beat the WoF yesterday but when I started playing last night things got bad. The world is now filled with damn OP monsters that hit for 65-99 HP every time. I believe molten armor was the best pre-hardmode armor and I have it along with some items to boost my defense to a total of 33 but I get completely destroyed when I walk around. Before hardmode I didn't die for the past 15 hours because almost everything was taking only 1-5 of my HP per hit. I believe it is because they added a lot of new heavy hittting enemies which spawn at the same time as the old hardmode enemies and they gang up on you. Or they have insanely unfair spawn rates because I get chased out of the jungle by 4 freaking ninja turtoise that for some reason do fly attacks on you that take almost 1/4 of your health when its at 400HP. Does anybody else have this problem or think its unfair? Pre- Hardmode with the best armor avaiable then is a piece of cake and then they throw all these overpowered things that kill you in seconds. Also whats with the abscense of leather in crimson worlds? I made 5 worlds with my character and they all are crimson meaning I cant get leather from the corruption monsters so I cant finish my Indiana Jones outfit.

If you have a Crimson world, you can obtain Corruption seeds during a Blood Moon from the Dyad. She sells them only during Blood Moons on Crimson worlds.

I think the enemies are harder, but the end game items are far superior. Once you get into adamantite/chloro armor, it's about like being in hallowed before. It really isn't too bad in the end of things, I rather liked the kick in the teeth to remind me everything won't be easy.

I agree, having the extra challange right off the bat is nice. Games seemed to get quite a lot easier compared to how they were 5-10 years ago.

Dont get me wrong I like a bit of challenge too but not the kind that makes you wanna delete the game. They make you fight multiple enemies on screen that do tons of damage and really get harmed only by magic. The minishark does like 1 damage even with silver bullets to almost everything hardmode exclusive. It kind of feels like all these new monsters were made by the devs for players who were already in hardmode. IMO it just makes the game unfriedly towards people who dont play a lot of games or are new to gaming.

I've actually heard that they nerfed some hardmode enemies, could be wrong about that though.

Yeah, hardmode has always been less forgiving with getting hit and the new mobs take this to an extreme but I don't view it as a bad thing. Defense does so little in this game that you really shouldn't try to rely on it at any point. The closest it comes to being useful is if you use the turtle armor with warding on every accessory. At that point it finally starts providing meaningful protection.

Hardmode is all about putting your skills to the test against enemies that will punish you for failure. There are plenty of things about it that I don't like but enemies that hit hard is not one of them.

From my experience, I highly reccommend going for Frost Armor right off the bat, if you can. All you have to do is wait for rain, and go to a snow biome. From here, dig an L-shaped hole in the floor, and make sure the vertical part is 2 block wide, and the horizontal part is 3 high. Wait here, and eventually a Frost Golem will show up. Bait him into the hole and blast him to pieces with ranged attacks, as he cannot hit you. Anything else that might fall in should be easy enough to handle. Lastly, DO NOT TRY TO FIGHT THEM FACE TO FACE. They will destroy you in your current gear. Happy hunting.

IMO, the minishark is by far the most overrated weapon in the game. I've never made any significant use of it due to the high cost of purchase and the extremely low per bullet damage. I've always seen the pheonix blaster as a far superior weapon since its rate of fire is plenty high and it does significantly more dmg/shot.

As for the point about magic, i'd have to agree. I never used to make that much use of magic in Terraria because before now it was always either very weak or took a good amount of resources to obtain. Now it seems like the magic equivalent on every tier is just better than any other option, except for MAYBE endgame hardmode gear. I don't really mind though because i've always liked magic in games and was rather disapointed with it in Terraria before.

Eh, I could agree that the new hardmode is probably unfriendly towards gaming newbies but this isn't exactly supposed to be someone's first game anyway; especially hardmode. Terraria has always been a much more combat/platforming focused game which isn't really the sort of thing someone new to gaming should be playing as an introduction.

As for the idea of needing to be in hardmode already, that's ridiculous. My older brother (who had never played Terraria prior to me convincing him to play 1.2 with me) managed just fine once we hit hardmode. They're a punishing group of enemies to fight to be sure but it's all a matter of dodging and/or striking first and you'll be fine. Most of the enemies are plenty affected by knockback and won't even try to hurt you while you're hitting them so just blast away and they can't reach you.

Well then get better equipment, and stay clear of the jungle until you have that better equipment.
Flaps 12 out. 2013 às 2:13
They changed the dungeon so it really doesn't change until after you beat Plantera, and the enemies aren't that much different, other than those in the jungle and during a solar eclipse. So your best option is really to go straight for Hallow armor (the Destroyer is pretty easy to farm) and be careful in the underground jungle while getting chlorophyte to make turtle armor. After that, make any preparations to fight Plantera.
Flaps 12 out. 2013 às 2:16
Oh, and getting biome-specific keys is the best thing that can happen, so farm for those and hope you get lucky. The Rainbow Gun is extremely helpful in beating Plantera (any boss, really) and Spectre armor makes it better on top of that.

Sadly magic is really op in hard-mode.

I also started Hardmode recently (and for the first time), and I started it AFTER 1.2 came out. Had pretty mcuh the same stats and armor as you did, but still didn't manage that well. Then started mining some orchaldcuaclacilcium and if you have the full set + the star cape it gets much easier (but still challenging at times).

It's pretty difficult, very frustrating honestly, but with Frost Armor and a Mushroom Spear, I started rockin' the joint myself. They are't too difficult to get (see the Frost Armor set explanation thing someone so kindly provided above), though the Mushroom Spear is 35? gold and requires a special NPC and a bit of effort to get the NPC on your part. (http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Terraria_Wiki Here's a wiki in case you don't know about it) Happy hunting :3

It's far easier than it used to be before 1.2. all of the original hardmode stuff was nerfed by about a third and you get access to weapons that are far more powerful(2-3 times more powerful than their early hardmode counterparts).

Just get back to basics, you didn't go running off to the jungle as soon as you started with your copper shortsword in-hand. Work your way up through the new ores(and/or plunder the hardmode ice biome for neat loot); then challenge some surface bosses before braving the hardmode jungle and dungeon.

For early mining, I'd suggest working your way upwards from hell - it's a relatively safe place until you kill your first hardmode boss.
