Terraria Multiplayer Disconnects the Internet.
When I 'Host and Play' on my home wireless network, the household gets disconnected from the internet even if no one else is connecting to the server. I only ever play with my wife and she's connected to the same wireless network, but every device in the house loses internet whenever we try to play. This problem persists even after we stop hosting the server, and isn't fixed until we restart the wireless router. Even a release/renew doesn't clear up the issue. Is this normal behavior for a server hosted on a wireless network?

This has not been a problem with any other game we have played, from MMOs to RTS to shooters on XBox Live. My download speed over the wireless is around 16 mbps and upload is usually 1 mbps.

I HAVE opened the port 7777, but I'm not positive I have done it correctly. My router doesn't have a setting to just open ports that I can find, it requires ports to forward to a specific IP. Since both of us are on the same wireless, I haven't been able to configure anything that opens a port up to both computers. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Have you been enabling uPnP when you start the server up? if so i believe that may be the cause of it. when uPnP was first introduced on the game i had the same problem once or twice, but its been a while since ive had that happen.

Try running the server seperately, not from within the game.

Interesting. That seems to have cleared it right up. Thanks very much! I was not specifically enabling uPnP, but using 'Host and Play' doesn't specify that option either way. Using terrariaserver.exe and choosing 'no' looks like the way to go.

test it a bit n see how it goes.

Also, running the server seperately will allow you to use server commands, type help in the server console and it'll bring up the commands ur able to use.

Yeah, after about 20 minutes of playing, the problem recurred. Neither of us was disconnected from the server, which is a slight improvement over previous attempts. I tried to ping google from my machine after the problem occured and it couldn't even connect to try to send the packets. Connecting to the router management IP took several seconds to load as well. I've tried disabling the router's uPnP to see if that makes a difference.
