But a blood moon and solar eclipse event can be handled anywhere ---- including not even handling it. If you aren't ready to do it, then that is a perfectly viable option. Wait until the moon or eclipse event is over, then return to your base. In the meantime, explore and mine.
Yes the increased spawn rate is everywhere but not necessarily as much as when you're sitting up there on the top of the world trying to kill things to force more spawns for more drops and loot.
Another solution is that while you may like to fight them near your spawn point so that if you die, you can come back to fight quickly, you don't have to fight them in view of the NPCs. You can save many, if not all, NPCs just by fighting off to the side a little bit to move the NPCs out of the screen. I'm not too sure of the exact distance but it's possible to fight invasion after invasion near your home and the NPCs never are touched because they are not within the boundary of the view screen or off-screen calculation of events happening.
And finally, although the weapons like True sword weapons will shoot a phantom sword, so that in that sense, you could use melee, but to get those swords, you need some drops from the eclipse event, unless you got a beam sword or similar from another drop. So what are other alternatives? Maybe not the best yet but that's why you are in hard mode -- to try to get better gear.
Because trust me -- once you get the better gear, this eclipse event will be just like anything else you have already beaten --- it becomes easy for you.
The alternatives -- chakram or light discs, guns, flail weapons, spear weapons. Anything that gives you some distance as well as knockback is good. You should not be stationary at this point -- with your wings or rocketboots, move around a lot. This is the stage at which it is more fun and interesting to fight the eclipse. Later, you will just stand around and even AFK during the fight, so have the fun now.
IMO the light discs are not often listed in people's favorite weapons list, but I find them very useful as quick ranged weapons that don't run out of ammo or MP. I use them in the HM jungle, dungeon, etc to take out a group of enemies. This is especially easy in the dungeon since only a few units have ranged attack.
They are really good for clearing out jungle growth, and in fact, I used them exclusively for the eclipse event until I got the True Night's Edge or Terra Blade, with a similar setup as Ultradoom's comment.
later on, with a friend of mine, he only had molten armor, but he did have a excelabur (idk and idc how to spell it correctly) he only died 2 times, then we found a strategy, stay in the house, and kill them as they come in through the door, they coulnt even come close to us!
solar eclipse is too easy for my feeling, needs to be buffed.
i tend to agree, if you can beat plantera, you should be geared well enough to survive the eclipse...
i did it before you needed to kill planterra, it was when 1.2 just came out, i hant discovered anny of the new weapons at that point.
