Can't get painter to move near corruption
I am trying to get the corruption themed painting from the painter by positioning him near the corruption, but each time I construct a house it says "This is not valid housing" The house is maybe 30 blocks away from the corruption, and it is showing the regular forest background and playing the forest music. Before I actually had the house in the corruption, but I got the message "this housing is corrupted" so I know that isn't the problem. I also set up a house on normal dirt with a corrupted background and corrupt music, but it again said the housing was corrupted.

Anyone have any idea what to do? How far exactly does the painter have to be from the corruption to sell the painting?

Npcs won't move in near corruption, so why not bring the the corruption to them.

Get a bunch of Ebonstone ( I belive the magic number is 50 and place it around the painters house.

I haven't had this problem but try this. Get a regular forest biome for your painter. Then use corrupt seeds and make the house around it corrupted. Do this until the music and backround changes. Make sure the painter is trapped so he wont leave. Then, if done correctly, you can buy the painting. Hope this helped!

How close to the house should it be? Touching it and underneath it or within a certain radius?

Up to around 42 blocks away.
I wasn't aware there were any corrupt exclusive paintings. Especially corruption invalidates housing.

Yep, there is one. It is just a pain to get to appear in the painter's inventory it seems haha

Can't you just use a King Statue to teleport him to the corruption and then buy it?

As Emmote said, if you have the King Statue you can use that (it's probably the easiest method).
Just bring the statue to the corrupted land and wire it, upon activation, it'll teleport a random male NPC to the statue's location.
