How To: Killing NPCs to rename them

So, I was trying to come up with the easiest method of "renaming" my NPCs, the legit way.
And then it struck me; an idea so simple that I can't believe it didn't occur to me earlier.

It's probably a well-known method for most of you, but I'll share the idea. What do I know, it might help someone some day.


So, to easily kill off your NPC so (s)he gets renamed, just visit the NPC's house and wire a statue that summons monsters there (the Skeleton or the Mimic statues work just fine).
Then trigger the statue, lure the Skeletons / Mimics near the soon-to-be-dead NPC and watch them die.
Repeat until you get the desired name

or you can craft a boulder and roll it over them and kill them instantly...

Or use Tedit...You can rename your NPCs there.

Super Dart/Flame trap hooked up to a switch works even better, just make sure to close the door.

but then you would have to get all the items and build the trap in front of the npcs.

With Tedit you can rename ur npc anything, I named my guide Herpyderp.

Rotten Eggs with the Frost Armor. Extra ranged damage along with the Frostburn DOT helps killing them quick...ish.

@ Shadow Mantis: Hehe, I thought you can't hurt your NPCs (other than with the voodoo doll).

lol i trapped the np in a little tiny box then put a slime in there that killed him (the slime was too close so he could'nt shoot

Boulder is the best "legit" method, however you can always use Tedit.

Necro'ing, and I don't usually approve of cheating (I've done it myself, but only 1) after I beat/100% a game and there's nothing left, and 2) for fun/experimentation (ex. I've used Builder's Workshop to test different equipment combinations before working on a class type in a legitimate run)), but I'll tell you how:

No, I'm serious. I'm PRETTY SURE Terraria Steam rules don't allow us to post links for cheat/hacks, and I wouldn't do it anyway. i'm pretty sure it's the same with non-cheat mods (those have to be posted in the actual Terraria forum if allowed), but I don't really have issues with those, especially if some of them are practically unofficial expansions. But if you REALLY want to use a cheat or hack, look for it on your own and use it at your own risk. Neither us nor Re:Logic will be responsible if your saves/client ends up being corrupted.
