Is there a way that I can plant cacti?
Hey all :) Need your help.
Cause I made a cactus farm with a 2 sand thick ground but it doesn't seem to be working for some reason.
Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong?

They aren't useless. In the desert, you can get both cacti and waterleaves. Cacti is used for 2 types of potions while waterleaves are used for 3. So they aren't ALL that useless :p

I would think the area would have to be converted into an actual Desert biome before cacti start growing.

And since cactus seeds don't exist, they'd probably grow on their own. I'm not sure putting a big chunk of sliced cactus on the ground actually does anything.

Cacti do provide a few things, including the material for pink dye, but generally a natural desert will provide you with more than you need.

Well okay then. Just wanted some convenience hahahaha :p Time to knock down my floating desert...

If you link all that sand together and remove some of the other stuff, you probably could turn it into an artificial biome. Cacti might grow in it spontaneously.

If you really need the convenience, that is.

Just make a place with 1 tile of sand horizontally. It might follow other rules of needing 50 tiles of sand before becoming a "desert" biome where cacti can grow. Either way, spreading it out horizontally for enough tiles or making a place with 5-10 tiles deep with sand, you should have the cacti growing there soon.
