Tabbing through the map types sometimes fixes it for me, but not always. Other times I just have to Alt+Tab out of the game and it's fixed when I come back.
Quitting the world and reentering it should also have a good chance of fixing the issue.
I highly doubt this problem can become permanent.
My husband, however, has tried these multiple times and no dice :\ He just tried backing up and deleting his map file. He says the world is as it should be, but the map has "reset" so he would have to go back and "rediscover" everything to update his map.
C:\Users\YourUserNameHere\Documents\My Games\Terraria\Players\YourTerrairPlayerNameHere\959757264....map
I renamed the 959757264....map back to 959757264.map and and deleted the extra 959757264...map and 959757264..map, now my map now shows normal. This happened to me when Terraria auto-updated on steam and i moved my map and player to the cloud then back.
Hope this helps someone out there, it was frustrating at first. :P
I don't know if this works for you guys, but give it a shot. First, (if you did) remove the Player AND world from the Cloud Save. Then, restore any Terraria-related component from the Recycle Bin (it's optional to move your [playername].plr file, but it's a most likely chance that your inventory will be changed into that file, so you can leave it in the Recycle Bin if you want). Then, check your Worlds folder in Documents\My Games\Terraria , see if there's any ''duplication'' (delete any file that doesnt match [yourworldname].wld OR [yourwoldname.wld.bak . Now, save everything, and run your Terraria world! Good luck, hope it works!
