Is there a faster way to mine?
I heard of this game after playing Starbound, and was told that Starbound got a lot of ideas from Terraria. I saw it on flash sale, and decided to buy, but digging is painfully slow. Only one block at a time? Is there a faster way, or maybe a way to mine 4x4 blocks (like in Starbound) or more?

Picksaw is the fastest pick ever but you have too fight the boss golem who is hard and need a key with you have to kill plantera in hardmode that needs to kill the Wall of flesh so 3 hard bosses to kill :3 im evil

You will mine faster by upgrading pickaxes. You can also mine bigger swaths of tiles by using bombs or rocket launchers. After a while, you'll have plenty of bombs or dynamite (or be able to buy them) that you can clear entire sections with just those explosives.

When i get tired of digging,i just sell the ores i got from digging and buy tons of dynamite from the demolitionist and go ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ crazy throwing them in one spot, pretty good tactic in my opinion

Blocks are smaller in Starbound and they take a whole lot more hits to break, which is why you can mine 'em nine at a time.

You'll get better, faster pickaxes. Soon enough all blocks just take one hit and you get through them fairly quickly.

If you don't mind the mess... you can use explosives.

Drills aren't any stronger and they kinda block your vision, I wouldn't recommend them.

Drills are AWESOME in Terraria, they mine so fast! All though there is one pickaxe that is faster and it drops from a boss.

Surrounded by drill posts! Where's this stuff about drills coming from?

Drills have the exact same stats as their Pickaxe counterparts, they just look different. At some point in game development, Hardmode ores could only be fashioned into drills... but a lot of people hated drills (they make a loud annoying noise and block your vision somewhat), which is why they implemented Pickaxes with the same stats.

Feel free to use drills if you prefer their aesthetics... but there's no statistical advantage to using them, so don't feel like you *have* to use them, they're not better.

Mining ore is rather slow at first, but you will start mining faster as you upgrade your pickaxe. Aim for getting a higher tier pickaxe instead of a new weapon or armor if you can hold your own without them.
Later in the game you will get drills, which I believe, in mining terms, are basically just reskinned (and noisier) pickaxes.
Look for Pickaxes with high Pickaxe power. Higher pickaxe power means faster mining, although that said, it's pretty obvious.
Although I'm not 100% sure, a pickaxe with a speed enchantment (like Quick or Light) may mine faster, as the swing speed is increased.

I think, the way it works, pickaxe power is an important factor in that it determines how many hits you have to give blocks before they break. However, it's separate from speed; you could have a pick with 1,000,000 power and it would break any block in one hit, but if it only hits once every 5 seconds, it's going to be very slow digging.

There are items that improve mining speed. I believe the Miner set and Celestial Stone both work for that, though of course the Celestial Stone is only obtainable late into Hardmode (after the Plantera progression block).

Alright. I'll give explosives a try. It's just a pain because in this game you actually have to PLAN out your dig.

In Starbound, I could just dig straight down for a while, then hold left or right and hold m1 above my head and consistently head upwards.

In Terraria, everything is so precise. I have to hit exactly the right spot, and it is a long, painful grind to get back up out of the ground. Even laying blocks down is harder because of the absolute precision you have to have with the mouse.

Magic Mirrors are fairly common in underground chests. Once you find one you'll be able to teleport home anytime; it takes about 3 seconds to go home and there's no cooldown on the item.
