Is there an easy way to get ore?

i tried digging down through the dirt and stuff but i cant find any and all i found was cobblestone. do i have to look for caves to find ore?

If you think that doing lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of digging is easy, then that is the easiest way. You can also make spelunker potions[terraria.gamepedia.com] that highlight all the ore on the screen. That makes it lots easier to find ore, but you need the materials to make the potions first. Don't bother using spelunker potions until you have a decent pickaxe, or it will be so slow-going that you will waste your potions.

But yes, search caves first, then dig in between them and downward to find more caves.

Personally, I have had enough of all the digging. I have harvested about half of the Chlorophye ore I need to make the end-game gear... but I just can't do it anymore. I wish there was a super powerful end-game digging tool, like a digging beam that digs a tunnel 3 blocks wide just as fast as you can run. That would have kept me from getting so burned-out. I probably won't ever play again.

So, if you're getting tired of the digging already then you will totally hate this once you advance to the point where you need to search for rare materials. It will consume all of your play time.

Yeah spelunker potions are awesome to work with. You should set up farms for blinkroot and moonglow using clay pots.

Have to agree with Cyborgt above. The Picksaw you get from The Lihzahrd temple is the best digging tool in the game EXCEPT for bombs!
I call it bombevating. It's easy, if you have a bomb machine, to aquire a hundred or more bombs it will take to bomb straight down from the surface to Hell. Use rope to hang from while throwing down a dozen sticky bombs in the direction of your feet. Wait for them all to go off. Lower more rope. Decend and collect all the ore. Throw away excess dirt or stone, if that bothers you. Then back up the rope a short ways to throw down a dozen more sticky bombs. It's a short matter to bomb all the way through the map, and you'll incidentally collect all the ores and other diggable stuff you could want.

But I did find some indestructible ore on the surface when I was exploring the map. (Gold Pick)

Try to get a spelunker potion, it will show you if there is any ore around. Visit the terraria wiki to see what mats you need. Digging is a big part of terraria, and the spelunkerpotion will help you a lot, and make sure to always upgrade to the latest tier pickaxe.
