I have found that Corruption, Snow, and the Oceans at the end of the world are great for Life Crystal and chest spawns.

The dungeon is always good for loot. Loads of chests plus all the furniture, paintings, wire and electrical items, statues and other stuff you can carry. You can get some good drops in the dungeon too.

I like spending time in the jungle. Many gold chests there. At first, I used to leave the gold bricks of the chest area alone, so that I'd remember I had been there and taken the chest already, but now I take the bricks also, since I figure I'd rather like to build something with it than to just leave it in the game world not doing anything else.

Yeah, and now the game maps areas you've already been to anyway so you don't need markers like that anymore.
