Disappearing Items?

I recently lost an obsidian horseshoe and some ice skates. Both were equipped and I can't find them anywhere, I've searched all chests. Is this a known issue or...?

Did you by any chance craft a lot of your own chests? Because there is apparently a bug in the game where - if there are too many more chests in a world than the number of chests that were spawned in it during world generation - items that you place in them will start to disappear.

Also, in regards to missing equipment that was actually on your character, sometimes visiting a multiplayer server will cause your character to lose what they had on them. This may have happened to me once.

Yes, I crafted a lot of my chests, but if I remember right I had them equipped when they disappeared, and I haven't played on any multiplayer servers. Of course it could be possible I dropped them by mistake, but I feel like I would have noticed.

I've had a pick axe and an axe disappear from my inventory for no apparent reason. Luckily they were low level items so i just crafted new ones but I can imagine it being fairly irritiating later in the game.

It might be a good idea to start making regular backups of your Terraria folder just in case this keeps happening.
