I recommend making a safe house and plenty of torches! Welcome to the world of Terraria!

Get a mining hat with a light, it is only 4 gold or something. At night time without a hat just dig down with plenty of torches with you.

Is it like literally too dark to se anythin? Your screen brightness might be too low.
IcePawn Dec 29, 2014 @ 12:28pm
agrees even if it is night you should still see. try makeing your screen brighter. it should only be black when your underground with no light from the serface or a torch

I think ALL THE COMPLETE GAME is at the night. all the things in Terraria are at the night. at the day, you can build something, you can explore... but all the other things in this game is at the night. you have big choices. If you don't see anything at the night, craft some torchs. And wait. in your house. best trick lol

Things that help you see in the dark:
Torches
Campfires (with bonus of health regen!)
Glowsticks
Mining Helmet (8g from merchant)
Certain armor (such as Molten)
Certain weapons (like most guns and phaseblades)
Certain summonables (Pixie,ShadowOrb, etc)
Lava
Fallen Stars (Disapear during day, unless you put them in a jar!)
Potions (Shine and Night Vision are the main ones)
Screen Settings

I think that's most of them, so hopefully this helps!

Don't spoil the weapons for him! Use
and
so he may be shielded from spoilers may he not want to see what weapons there are.

The ones I mentioned are rather early-mid game, nothing super spectaculer. And this was from an hour ago, so he's already seen.

Torches are a permanent solution, but if you have a merchant you can buy a flare gun and some flares. They go away after a while but they are good ways to light up something temporarily
