I like to fortify for the Goblins by digging out the ground at the base of my building and using pits with lava. If the lava is suitably shallow (less than half a block in height), it won't even destroy the loot, just the goblins. Then I run around killing the casters--a nice open floor plan and wooden platforms will help with this-- until they give up and go home.
I can change the backwalls if that would help but I would want to know whether or not they are the problem befor I change them.
And they can break open doors, of course.
Oh, and they could potentially also be spawning on a Sky Island above your house (there tends to be one near the middle of the map) and just falling down from there.
Don't walk a mile when I give you an inch ;-)
Again, You're welcome!
That's true. I was hoping to minimalize that but I'll tolerate a few NPC deaths if I need to.
I've looked into the backwall situation and the wiki says that neither an artificially-placed dirt wall or a Living Wood wall will allow enemies to spawn in them. And, sure enough, this seems to be true; I've now discovered how the goblins were getting into my NPC houses. Apparently there is now a bug that lets enemies fall through vertically-placed blocks. So the goblins were basically falling through the roofs of my NPCs' houses. I've seen this happen a few times now.
I've also found a solution to this new dilemma: I am now summoning goblin invasions farther away from my NPC town. In particular, I now summon them in the center of my invasion traps area and I am staying there until the invasion is over. The moment my screen comes into contact with any part of an NPC's house, I can expect to encounter the new bug I just mentioned. So I will avoid doing that for the time being.
