Golden Shower or Rainbow Gun?
They are both pretty good. I'm not sure which is better. I think it's Rainbow Gun. I don't really want both because I'll end up only using one and barely using the other. I haven't seen many people use Golden Shower in the Frost/Pumpkin Moon but I have see people using the Rainbow Gun. So which one is better? This is my first time going so far with a mage. I've only done Ranger, Summoner and Warrior/Ranger Hybrid.

because rainbow gun does 44 damage and the golden shower only does 21-22 i think

Personally, I'd still haul around the golden showers anyway. The debuff is up to an extra 10 damage per hit.

I know you said you don't want both, but if you use the Golden shower to lower their defense, and use Rainbow Gun to clean up, it's a pretty nice combo.

I could just use ichor flasks for that.

...what? as for your flask comment, unless you found a decent piercing meele wep its kinda a waste for the invasions. golden shower has great piercing and its a decent wep aswell, but only in earlier hardmode. rainbow gun is kinda like a magic death sickle and im pretty sure its hard to get focused so much you end up using one, m8. kinda feels like a excuse to not combine them.

Ichor Flasks only affect melee, which means that they won't work with the Rainbow Gun for obvious reasons.

Your best bet is to do what Ninja said to- lower defense with the Golden Shower and then clean up the mess with the Rainbow Gun. IMO, though, they're both pretty much junk, and you ought to use the Heat Ray, the Razorblade Typhoon, the Bubble Gun, and the Razorpine, if you can get your hands on those.
