Making a castle (aesthetics question for the terraria builders)

It is made from grey bricks and wood walls mainly, the castle extends outwards near the top so aestheticly I would like to add support beams to make it look more realistic, wanted to go with something else other then the normal grey brick although that will do if there isn't really anything else that will fit with it. any suggestions?
what I'm looking for: something that will look good, like it's meant to be there.

For support, I like using regular wood fences, just extend it into a block to make the 'decorative' top go away. OR you could use the wood beams that you find in the underground houses/mineshafts.

ok thanks for suggestions I'll check out the beams, not sure i want my castle supported by a fence though heheh

I thought it looked nice on mine, but that's my personal preference. Wood beams will probably go good with the walls you have.

if you want anything to look nice... use tons of wooden beams and planked walls
if you want a example look at my screenshots

also mix things up.. don't just use grey bricks and wood
you can also use walls as a "support beam", sometimes dynasty looks good with wood as a supporting wall

You might already know this but you can hammer blocks and make smooth angled surfaces. Would work good for a support beam.

i realised almost as soon as i started... i am unable to build a plane...

ok I mixed beam with the rock/wood walls found in underground. did beam, then that, then beam, looks pretty decent. may upgrade it somehow later but pretty satisfied for now.
