Little help here?
So I played this game way back when, and a ton of updates have come out since then, so can someone tell me the difference between corruption and the red zone ( no clue what it's called). Are there different bosses, or is it just different monsters?? Thanks guys!

Eater of worlds is replaced by Brain of cthulu. And no other bosses change. You had only shadow armor previously, but now you'll have a red version of that armor which regens health slowly. Those are the most important differences.

During one of the updates, alternates were added to the game. Tin as an alternative to Copper, Lead for Ore, Tungsten for Silver, Platinum for Gold. And Crimson became an alternate for Corruption.

There's minor differences. Ebonstone can be crafted into Ebonstone Bricks, but Crimstone can't be crafted directly into bricks. You have to get a Meat Grinder in Hardmode to craft them into Flesh Blocks. Crimson worlds also have the Steamcrafter sell the Flesh Cloning Vat to make Flesh themed furniture.

The regular monsters for pre-hardmode Crimson are Blood Crawlers (a spider), Face Monsters, and Crimeras (which resemble Eaters of Souls, kind of.) The regular monsters of Corruption are Eater of Souls and Devourers (a worm type enemy.)

Corruption is the only biome that you can fish up Purple Clubberfish. It's a weapon that's decent for early to mid-game.

If you like Wrath or Thorn potions, you're probably better off with Corruption, as it's the only place to get Ebonkoi and Worm Teeth, ingredients of these two potions.

The minor differences go on and on. But there's also nothing that says you can't cultivate a small patch of the other biome inside your world. Eye of Cthulu is easyish to slay, and drops seeds. You could also dig up the corrupted stone, ice, or sand to transfer, as these blocks will spread in Hardmode.

Personally, I'd suggest going to the Wiki, looking at all the differences, and deciding which you prefer.

i personally prefer corrupting cause theres a chance when you kill eater of souls that it drops a ancient shadow armour piece.

This is super detailed, I really appreciate the time you took to answer my question. :)

There's also one other thing that hasn't been mentioned so far about the differences. However, at the same time, I'm not sure how recent the biome chests in the dungeon are. They're probably also new to the game from what the original poster is saying.

Anyway, in hardmode, while within a frozen, jungle, corrupt/crimson, or hallowed biome, everything has a small chance of dropping a key mold, which can be crafted with some other materials to make a biome key. Within a recently generated dungeon, one chest spawns for each of those biomes in your world, with the corruption/crimson chest matching whichever your world naturally generated with.

The only reason I bring this up is that each chest has a unique weapon in it. The crimson variant is different from the corruption variant, and often times the crimson weapon is viewed as overpowered (although in some endgame cases, it's next to useless).

Now that think about it, there's also another thing that's definitely different between a crimson and corrupt world. Crimson mobs drop an alternate hardmode material from cursed flames, which itself also has its own early hardmode spell to make. That spell is rather quite useful and can still be used as a debuff tool in endgame.

That's all I have to say that hasn't been touched upon so far. If any veterans are looking upon this and see any glaring issues, please feel free to correct them. I've only played this game since 1.2.3, roughly, and that was well after the crimson and biome chests were a concept.
