Terraria can not support the amazing mechanical mods that exist for Minecraft.
I like terraria for what it is, but the mods make Minecraft FAR better
As I said, even with mods, Minecraft doesn't win due to the sheer progression balance and speed that Terraria has. Yes Minecraft is a better creative sandbox, but Terraria is a far superior action game then Minecraft will ever be even with all the mods put together.
Terraria's progression system alone beats Minecraft, even with mods.
Don't get me wrong, I like Minecraft for what it is, I just don't like extremely slow-placed cheesed up progression systems. So we can agree to disagree due to the difference in taste.
Progression balance?
Sorry pal, but thats an apples and potatos argument. Minecraft has 0 real progressions aside from a short-term ore one and thats a part of what makes it good.
Terraria forces you to slog through ♥♥♥♥ ores slowly.
Terraria looks better, Minecraft has better sandbox mechanics.
Minecraft's mods also make it win out 10 fold.
Both Minecraft and Terraria are different in there own ways and some aspects of the game are very similar to the other.
I do understand why people don't like Minecraft/Terraria. I used to be like that but then I saw that they are both really good games and that a lot of people out there really enjoy them. So I decided to try playing them, and I really enjoyed it.
But overall I think it shouldn't be compared to the other by the way it looks, plays or how slow/fast it runs. They are both equal in there own way.
No, it's not. It is a valid argument.
Cosmically better than saying "The ability to mod Minecraft makes it better" even tho there aren't any mods out there that even come close to terraria's cleverly designed mechanics and it's progression system.
Also, I don't know what kind of game you've been playing, but I can pretty much finish normal mode in less than an hour. Where just mining in Minecraft is tedious and outright boring. Always been, always will be.
And finally, I didn't say "we can agree to disagree due to the difference in taste" because I feel like you or I, will "win" the argument. I said it because it is a hard fact. So please be my guest, let us continue with this pointless argument.
Terraria doesnt have any "cleverly" designed mechanics. It is a straight up a -> b -> c -> d line with an occasional boss thrown into the mix. This is a VERY tedious porogression system. Tedious is not challange nor fun, just fyi. There are no means to skip sections of the progression line, its all forced.
Clever would be allowing you to skip tiers by being really skillful and killing bosses before your supposed to, or something like that.
The one thing terraria has over Minecraft are the events. Many of them are fantastic. Blood moon, the christmas and halloween stuff, etc. Hands down these are awesome
That one bit there kind of got me, it makes me think you either played for a rather short time, or somehow skipped alot of great mods. Though in the end this whole topic and even the " issue " is more or less a lot of people argueing about oppinions and thoughts. It tends to be pointless because as always, no one is ever allowed to have oppinions or thoughts on things that differ from another person.
More on topic : I find that MC does indeed win against terraria in the fact that it is a rather insane amount of space you get to run around in. That is however also a negative against it, even with modded content in the game you still will often be covering alot of ground just looking for anything to do. Terraria however has biomes that do feel more alive generally. MC beats terraria in the modded content zone of course, in both amount and quality I would say. Terraria and MC both have progression in them, that being said both of them are equally bad really. Theres not all to many choices there aside from this. Dig up resource > Make next tier > rinse and repeat. The only real open part of this is end game in both where you attempt to enchant your gear, or in Terraria's case choose to be a certain " class ". I do appreciate MC's villages, but they could and really should have done a hell of alot more on that front. Terraria wins there in my oppinion since you have unique merchants that sell certain things, look different, and can interact with. Well at least interact more than a choice to buy a single item or hear HMMMMM again and again.
TLDR: I have oppinion and thoughts on things, but since its the interwebs you would be better off just ignoreing it all completely and kick me to the curb.
And i would disagree with that.
I played unmodded terraria for about 2 hours before i got bored. Thankfully N-Terraria was there to fil the rest of my time played.
Diamonds aren't blue.
You can't just go underground and find some red powder that generates electricity.
It's impossible to just put ingots together and call it armor. I mean seriously, you make the armor in a darn crafting table.
Well, Terraria doesn't make sense in any way, but it has much more content and more stuff to do.
I play the game unmodded and it has almost been 900 hours through the game and I'm still not bored.
While i may not enjoy unmodded, its awesome to see people enjoying the game instead of complaining on the forums >.>
