Minecraft seems like a peculiar example for a game that would better fit the term "hacked items" considering it has a creative mode...
Anyway, unfortunately there's really no way to enforce the idea of only using items gathered from the mp world if you're not using a mod to do so. Considering you're here asking i'm guessing you aren't using one.
Sadly that means you can only operate off assumptions as to whether the items in question could have been feasibly obtained. Since there are people out there capable of killing end-game mobs with early pre-hardmode gear, that can be a bit difficult to determine with any level of certainty.
