Assuming you are in hard mode - put wood platfoms down where you plan to farm. Ghosts can come from the bottom and kill you. If you stand on platforms and leave some room, your minions will destory them before they reach you. Using this method you don't have to spend time setting up traps and clearing stuff out. You can pick you biome, make a little room and set up the platforms and blue candle and you are done. I've been doing this for the halloween season and my guy can survive a solar eclipse or a blood moon with out any human intervention. I come back one every thirty minutes or so to pick stuff up and check what I found :)
Now just press enter the whole time and go to your Terraria, go to multiplayer and join by typing "localhost", now you will join your world and you can switch between tabs without the game pausing because you're on a multiplayer server.
I'm sorry, but I don't think you read my question...I'm trying to find out if there's a way to keep the game running in the background if I am running another program.
Oddly enough, your mouse clicks will pass through though.
This is Win 8.1 BTW, but i imagine Win 7 would be the same.
Will that require me to be playing with other people on the multiplayer game?
If you want it to not minimize, just set it to windowed mode.
If you (like me) don't want the white bar because of immersion reasons: In Terraria, go to Settings > Video > Resolution > set Borderless Window to Enabled. Then, turn on windowed mode (if you still see the white bar at the top, restart Terria).
This should get rid of the minimizing problems you have while still keeping the fullscreen immersion. Hope I could help!
Hope this helps!
