Sides of hardmode Hallow+Corruption spawns completely random?
Is it completely random and decided each time on which side Corruption spawns and on which side Hallow? I had this thought, just a thesis, since I couldn't find explicit information about the area spawns, that maybe it could be related to on which side of the map you summon the Wall of Flesh.

I have absolutely no idea.... I've always seen the hallow in the west and the new strip of corrupt/crimson in the east... but I've onyl activated hardmode on only a few worlds. I also usually summon the wall on the right side of the map, but I'm not entirely sure if that has an impact or not...

Huh, it's the complete opposite for me, and I spawn the wall from the left side
Maybe it does have something to do with it... or it's just a big coincidence

If that's true, it's rather quite worth investigating. Having the new strip of crimson/corruption spawn right in the middle of your jungle when you first start hardmode can and will cause problems. If this trend is true, it means we can control which side that nasty biome spawns on!

If it is true, then the wall should always be fought on the side of the world where the dungeon is. I'd test it now, but I've got stuff to do today. Shouldn't even be posting on the Terraria steam forums at all right now...

Cool, this sounds like my suspicion could actually be true. I guess if both of you tried it out, doing it the other way round than usual and the results confirm the theory, it would be safe to say the dying Wall of Flesh spawns the C/C on its side. Indeed that would be awesome, because having the Hallow on Jungle side would make things a lot simpler. And while one could keep killing the Wall and restoring if it's on the wrong side, that's quite the effort to go through.
BTW when you say east, you mean right hand player side, correct? Because there's that slightly confusing choice of making the sun rise in the west in Terraria.

Had time to test it yet?

If you speak of west and east just use the direction which the GPS tells you. SO west is the left hand side of the map and east is the right hand side of the map. According to the GPS at least.
I for myself dont know if this theory is correct. But my current world got the crimon inside the jungle lol. But if i remember correctly the first time wof kill was more on the side towards the west. But wof got first summoned more on the east side from spawn point, but ultimatelly died in the west part of the map.
So hypothetically speaking what would be important, where the wof DIED or SPAWNED `? Or would even both be important ?

People have been theorizing about this for a long time, and I believe it's been confirmed that where the new biomes spawn is completely random. If it depended on where the WoF was killed/summoned, then chances are it'd be common knowledge, considering how often this rumor pops up without anyone able to confirm it.

Strange that the results of that discussion can't be found more easily though. Neither in Wikis, nor in my web search.

comment so i can find it later
ill do some tests and post results

Edit: tested it about 1500 east got 1 time crimson 1 time hallow so its not WOF-side dependent

Well, that's my point. Lots of people have wondered if the location of the WoF's death has to do with where the biomes pop up, but so far no one has been able to confirm it. Considering the game has been out for several years now, its code is readily available, and plenty of people have asked this question before, you would think that, if it were true, it'd be common knowledge. Since it isn't, the chances are much better that it's just random, even though I haven't found confirmation of that either (but it'd be simpler, so, y'know, Occam's Razor).

Thanks a lot!

I now experimented a bit (turned out WoF is quite easy), and while one might find the information that the two stripes spawning can form more like a cross than a V, what I didn't know is that the center of the two stripes can deviate quite a bit, like ~500 blocks. It was very much uncentered on the default spawn point, making my base shielding corridor mostly useless. (No problem though since, as I said, it was just a test run.)

I've done both. Numerous times, on numerous worlds. I think it's safe to say that the new biomes generate relative to where the Wall was spawned.

Read all comments and you know it's totally not safe to say, but pretty safe to say it's random.
I just tested it myself and the Hallow spawned on the side where the WoF was summoned and died, which goes contrary to reports from other people.

Which comes to the conclusion, that, it's all a coincidence

And hallow still spawns on the right for me ._.
