Nazar Farming...so...much...headache... -.-
I've spent near 20 total hours in the Dungeon trying to get one Nazar (the only piece left for the Anhk Shield) with no luck... this is easily the most annoying thing I've yet to farm in this game. And I thought the 40 +/- Pirate Waves to get the Coin Gun, Lucky Coin, and Discount Card was bad...

Suggestions?

You'll get it eventually. If you're already in hardmode and are going back into the dungeon, try wearing full Chlorophyte gear. That leaf buff cuts through Angry Bones like crazy. It also goes after Cursed Skulls, so you'll be killing more this way and consequently getting more to spawn, thus raising your chances.

Ironically, for me, it's the Nazars I get too much of and those accursed Bezoars I can't seem to find at all.

I'm full End Game farming those damn Cursed Skulls and can't get one..it's maddening o.O

The Nazar can drop in pre-hard mode. As it drops from Cursed skulls, which are present in both pre-hardmode and hardmode. Thats the way i got mine.

Yes, Cursed Skulls are pre-hardmode enemies, but it takes longer to kill them then because they can go through walls and they wait for the longest time while doing so before they'll come at you. Having the Leaf buff from a full set of Chlorophyte will kill anything within a certain proximity, regardless of whether or not it is inside a wall or not. You kill the Cursed Skulls so much more quickly that way, therefore raising your chances of getting a Nazar to drop.

..."normal mode?" Right now there is only pre-hardmode and hardmode. Both of those can be considered "normal" modes.

Everything is easy to obtain for me, It's solar eclipses and blood moons that I can't get. I think I've only had 1 solar eclipse in 154 hours of playing

I mention this method since you are at end-game already.

Find a nice open section of Dungeon (or create one) and just place two platforms so that you will be standing with the floor maybe 1 - 3 blocks off the screen. Put on summoner gear and summon as many twins as you can. Place a water candle on the platform, hold one in your hand and grapple yourself into place. The twins will constantly swoop down and murder everything that spawns below you. If I recall correctly Paladins won't even throw hammers if you are directly above them.

Can pretty much just go afk, read a book, smoke a bowl... whatever floats your boat.

I believe what Viberan was suggesting was the the original poster takes his endgame character onto a pre-hardmode world, then farm there. I would suggest the same.

i can only suggest to not farm for a specific item. Items tend to drop when the least you expect them. So i generally would concentrate more on the fun and projects than rather on farming and one strict item. Accessories drop after awhile like crazy. Just pick the nazar up when you see one but dont look for it. Besides nazar can be dropped from several different enemies, so consult the wiki and maybe do different projects or nice party coop in such biomes. Trust me its much more fun to find items just from the get go and dont look too hard for things. Just let the gameplay flow. After all an ankh shield gets outdated pretty quickly. All my endgame heroes dont use ankh shields. Yes they dont and they are hardcore heroes. Ankh shield is not a critical life or death item. ITs just neat to have and for collectors and very situational or for lazy people who dont want to dodge from curses etc.

Good luck though on your terraria adventure

I for one, disagree with that opinion, that the shield becomes quickly outdated. The +4 defense is a direct upgrade form the obsidian shield, and for people who are obsessed with defense like me, that's useful.

Although it is true that I could put more effort into dodging, I'm not perfect. I still get hit from time to time. I'd rather not have the ocasional stray mob hit me and debuff me, especially if it's one of the debuffs that are just plain annoying, like the broken armor debuff. I mena seriously, that one drives me insane. Five entire mintues of halved defens eis just... too much.

Oh, and my main reason for keeping ym ankh shield isn't because of the debuff immunity, it's because of the knockback immunity combined with all the other straight upgrades. I dislike being pushed around by mobs. Most times it is a good thing, as it gets you away, but other times it can lethal. Being able to maintain control of where I'm going is important to me. I might as well keep the extra defense and immunities.

But back on topic, the naazar only drops from four enemies, the cursed skulls, cursed hammers, enchanted swords, and crimson axes. All of the alternative ones are even harder to come across than the skulls are. (http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Nazar)

However, your suggestion is indeed a good one. The first nazaar I found was indeed from randomly just playing the game, although tha was during pre-hardmode when I was looting gold chests. But the RNG decided to make me pay for that much later on armor polish. Took me so darn long to get one of those.

Finally got one...now for the grind getting my Rod of Discord :/
Retrolicious Oct 26, 2014 @ 10:56am
For the rod of discord i wouldnt grind it too hard either. Grinding for 1 specific item for hours drains all fun. Trust me. For my first rod i tried to grind for it one day straight and it was a disaster. Than on a different world and new playthrough i just found it randomly while i was doing something completelly different. At that time i tried to farm souls of light for a boss summon i think. So again i wouldnt grind for items too hard. Just enjoy the game. Besides terraria got much much more to offer than only boring loot !

If you're super desperate, farm it in a prehardmode world. Since there are less types of enemies that spawn, cursed skulls are MUCH more likely to appear.

Though I still argue that Paladin's Hammers and Blindfolds are far more annoying to get.

Look a bit further up on this page.

I can understand that some people just don't like to read and/or have the attention span of a gnat but some consideration should always be put into whether they are really making a novel contribution if they choose to be that way. At least admit you didn't read the entire thread and therefore may be repeating someone else before you post, if that is the case.
