I say "ick-er" but there might be a more proper way to say it.

It can be "ɪ-kər", "ɪ-kor", "aɪ-kər", or "aɪ-kor". The OED lists both ɪkər and aɪkər, and other sources list various combinations of these. If you want to know how it was pronounced in the original Greek where it came from, though, it was actually pronounced "i-kor" (ee-core for those of you who don't know IPA).
