Magnet sphere is good if you have Spectre amour (any headgear). It's nice to throw down if you're in a tight situation (seeing as you were int he dungeon, you may find yourself in such a situation), then it's good for throwing down and getting some damage/healing out. Worth using in conjunction with Nimbus rod.

Magnet sphere is IMO best magic weapon in the game as it has auto-aim, high fire rate and if you can crank the dmg up and get healing spectre armor it's very overpowered. I beat plantera with healing spectre armor and that weapon ONLY. And never got under 250 hp so yea

the razorblade tyhoon is the best it has auto aim and deals much more damage, and you can have more than 1 at a time...

For using once and then swaping to another spell, yeah, it's pretty good.

Exactly. Like the Nimbus Rod, the Magnet Sphere is a support weapon. You can use it with any build whether it's magic focused or not to provide a little supplemental damage but as a primary weapon it's quite lacking. The first two weapons you listead easily beat it in DPS potential.

on my ranger character its quite useful in the dungeon...so for a mage it must be very powerful
