But Terraria is awesome cause you can never really loose your base with the limited world. You can bring stuff from one world to another. And I really like the artwork.
But really, you can't properly compare them, because with usefulness and options and re-playability it will always be minecraft.
But price wise Terraria is nice ;3
Edit: Oh and I have a ton of hours on both so I suppose I like them more in periods xD.
Soundtrack wise, which is better? I struggle with this
1 creative: minecraft has a low number of blocks, on the other hand terraria has alot, you can build awesome things in both but... minecraft wins on this mainly for the 3D world
2 fighting: minecraft's fighting is quite boring.. terraria is very fun when it comes to action packed battles :)
3 items: terraria has very unigue items, so does minecraft but... minecraft is quite bland when it comes to how many things there are in the game, minecraft last i checked (one of the 1.8 snapshots) had only 250 items... when terraria as of 1.3 has 3000 items!
4 community: both have a... let's say... sensitive community... if we're talking about the good side (builds/mods/community made things) then minecraft wins, but if we're talking about the bad side (ragers/little kids/squeakers) then terraria wins... the minecraft community is... ugh... sad...
5 modding: both have mods, wa'll terraria is easyier to install mods it has much less and mods are much smaller most of the time, but for minecraft has quite alot of mods, some good, some bad...
6 exploring: minecraft after you have seen all the biomes and found all the dungeons is not fun to explore, terraria has chest dungeons cool caves and awesome biomes
7 bosses: minecraft has 2 bosses (wither and ender dragon) terraria has (eoc/eow/boc/wof/king slime/lepus/golem/plantera/ocream/skeletron/skeletron prime/pumpking/ice queen/ and a few more) don't even get me started on mini bosses.. tim... wyvern... morning wood... etc
8 sounds: terraria has a great upbeat soundtrack that you can listen for hours! minecraft has a good one as well but it can be annoying...
9 final: so i have played terraria 3 years and still injoy it to this day, but for minecraft i only play at a new update, and thats only for a few hours...
so i think thay are both equel, but in my opinion terraria wins
If terraria was accesible without steam I'm guessing it would be a lot more like minecraft. Because you can now easily convince your mummy and daddy to get you one of those minecraft account cards in store, whilst with Terraria, mummy or daddy first has to get you a steam account or share theirs. Most mommy's and daddy's do not like that.
And I think the 2D. 3D part is exactly why one game has so much blocks and one so little. Terraria would be very bland with such a small amount of items and blocks, where as in Minecraft it's more than enough for an interesting landscape and awesome builds. And we're still getting more.
Minecraft has a very relaxing soundtrack that I think is pretty awesome, and goes well with the relatively layed back feel of the game.
Terraria has pretty upbeat musics, that again goes well with the action packed-ness of the game
I personallly liek terraria bettah
there are music boxes
