Larger enemies will be immune to the lava, but it will burn up the lower tier enemies such as you frequently get int he first few rounds. Beware of how wide your fighting platform area is or the enemies can spawn on the platforms off screen.
Items to boost health regen are extremely useful. Such as campfires, heart lamps, and pools of honey to dip in and get the health regen boost.
If you have raided the lizhard temple you use the traps and put them under your fighting platform to deal with the enemies below. I would actuate these to an inactive state, remove actuators, and then rig to a timer. The traps will still function normally while inactive. And you can still act in a ranged manner on your fighting platform.
Then you will deal mostly with the Mourning woods ranged fire attack and all the pumpkin kings. The traps and lava will deal with most of the small fries so you can focus on the more dangerous heavy hitters of the waves.
''so that I have all the gear ready before the 1.3 update''
Out of curiosity, for what ? There will be better armours/weapons/accessoires in Update 1.3. Btw. don't forget that you need to create a new world in Update 1.3, otherwise you will miss out on a lot of new content.
After 500+ hours in Terraria i'm just waiting now for Update 1.3 and then start a new character & world. I also want to see how the new expert mode with identical enemies and bosses with new, more difficult AIs and increased drops from the beginning is. It would be pretty boring if i would use my overpowered mage (killing hardmode bosses in 2-3 seconds and doing frost/pumpkin moon without problems) with perfect crafted gear in Update 1.3. Not everything will be endgame content so it isn't a bad idea to also enjoy the new early game content to get the full experience from the new update.
Yea, i can understand that. I had a decent house and with a new world i will loose it. But i want the new content so there is no other choice.
This was my house.. well more like a hotel ^^

Pictures are a bit old. In this picture the mannequins don't wear armour and i only have torches instead of candles.
And about dying, well, there is also something good about it. It's not as boring anymore. With my old character i never had any problems, no matter what. But when i restart then i will have a challenge again and that also means more fun for me again, especially with the new Expert-Mode. I always played Softcore so this time i will try Mediumcore. I never played a Ranger or Summoner, so maybe i will try out one of them. But the new magic weapons that i saw in the trailers were so awesome... hard decision ^^
Anyways, i'm really hyped for update 1.3, even if i spoiled myself with the upcoming feature list
