[SOLVED] Can't Beat Destroyer
I must be an idiot or something, because I just can't beat the Destroyer. I've got buffs (ironskin, thorns, well fed), heart lamps, a legendary cutlass, orichalcum armor (melee), and healing potions. What am I doing wrong?

Also, the other hardmode bosses are equally impossible for me, so things like the flamethrower are out of the question.

You should use tactics look on the wiki is gives a perfect example

Melee sucks for first destroyer kill. You need a huge dug out of the ground arena like 200 x 200 or so hole cause it restricts his movements with levels to jump between and a orichalcum repeater and some crystal arrows or ichor arrows. With the arena he mainly stays in the lower levels you are free to shoot him from above.

Once you best him others become easy.

I'll have to try that. I also heard that using the cross necklace and letting him hit you can reduce the damage taken from probes. If anything, I'll try to find some heart statues to try and make a proper arena.

My first kill for my current character was melee. between a philosiphers stone, a reforged cutlass, a star cloak, and full titanium armor, he was pretty easy. just rush the probes and kill them from time to time so they don't kill ya and drink pots whenever you can heal that 150.

Or if you have the steampunker, make an underground mushroom biome, get a truffle worm, make a map long skybridge made out of asphault, and fight duke fisheron on that bridge and enjoy some of the best weapons in the game.
two words... NIMBUS ROD

You might want to get a set of tier 3 hardmode armor. The ore can be found somewhat easily in the ceiling of hell, especially with a spelunker potion. Also, you might want to use a shield if you aren't already. Knockback might push you away fromd anger, but at the same time it might push you toward more danger, and worse yet, push you away from what you're hitting or from where you're trying to move.

Okay, thanks for the tips you guys! I upgraded my arena, my armor, and my weapons and finally managed to beat him. It was close, but I managed it. Thanks again!

Now for the rest of those dang bosses...

For those, just make a megashark. It can handle hardmode level mobs with ease and is pretty decent for boss killing.

If you're still struggling you can fight the destroyer again and make a full set of hallowed armor, which should make it much easier.

Oh, and I hope you had wings. If you don't, you should probably grow a pair (literally! Well, more like craft, but well... joke.)

I crafted the megashark the second I killed the Destroyer. As for wings, I'm hoping to farm the Duke later on for the best wings, but for now I'll just buy the jetpack (I've got tons of extra gold lying around, so it's not much of a waste). Thanks for the tips!

Well, that was one other problem that could have been solved for the destroyer in a conventional, flat fighting area. You really need wings in hardmode because you need that flight to dodge. But still, a jetpack will serve you well for the time being.

I would recommend using a hoverboard on His Grace. The hover feature lets you move horizontally really quickly, allowing you dodge some of his attacks. It's a little more complicated than just running away, especially if you want to avoid leaving the ocean during the fight. Still, an asphalt skybridge will do the trick nicely.

Anyway, yeah, you're welcome and have fun with the rest of hardmode! You've done more than scratched the surface, but you're not that deep yet!

Great to know, thanks! I've got 200+ hours in this game, but I've never actually gotten far enough into hardmode to get around to fighting the bosses, though I'm having quite a lot of fun now that I have.

Now to take on the twins... This should be interesting! (Gotta remember to take em on one at a time, IIRC.)
