Ocean farm help
I'm in pre-hardmode trying to get the Diving helmet, and I have a small 'farm' working, but I could use some help. Any screenshots or ideas of ocean farms?

lava on platform, which have chest on them. yourself in a basin of water.

Ditch the ocean farm, get a shark statue, and power it with wire. Lava kills the sharks, giving you shark fins, diving helmets, and shark banners.

I can go into statue farming with more detail if needed.

Well I would, but I don't have a shark statue.

And I thought they didn't let you put lava on platforms anymore?

Sounds like it's time for statue hunting. They can be very useful things, and enclosing a trapped shark in a death box tends to be safer (and ultimately faster) than trying to farm from the ocean.

However, that's just my two cents. Is your world in Hardmode, or no? Do you have a minion item? HappyDays on YouTube has a design for an Ocean trap for farming gold and biome key molds. It wouldn't be difficult to adapt the design for something more mundane.

Here's a very simple & basic example of an pre-hardmode ocean farm:

So, get a bunch of Dart-Traps. They're most common in the underground jungle & glowing mushroom biomes, also often near wood cabins underground.

Just go underground with some Dangersense-Potion, to easily locate them.

If you have enough traps, make a 1-second-timer, go to the ocean, make a wall of these traps, wire them to the timer and put down a water candle/drink a battle potion and wait.

IMPORTANT: Leave a hole (see screenshot), so you can get the aggro of the mobs, causing them to keep swimming in front of your trap wall.

Also, mobs do spawn on the land away from the ocean (right side of the screenshot), so it might speed up farming, if you flatten out the beach and put lava or addition traps on it or build a trap-tower in the middle of the ocean instead.

ShadeDaystar, my world is not in hardmode, that's why I said pre-hardmode up top. Yes I have minions, and yes I watch HD. But I can't do that stuff, because I'm in pre-hardmode without a Shark statue.

And I'm still looking for mechanic, so I can't make my farm good yet.

This is my basic ocean farm, if you have access to super dart traps, use those instead:

Note the use of three timers

Don't forget to have a water candle and a battle potion.

She (The Mechanic) should be tied up somewhere in the dungeon.

I know, I just haven't gotten to the dungeon yet.

Rellik66 gave the most basic design for an ocean farm.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0r4E2-SYGZ4

For a more advanced version. The extra platforms keep the monsters close by. Using a minion can negate the need for traps, since you haven't found the Mechanic, yet. Enclosing your little box can prevent monsters from attacking you, and sloping the outside walls can push extra monsters into your kill pit. Crafting it from wood instead of Lihzard brick is fine for your purposes, and can be easily replaced when you choose.

You really need to go there, because mechanisms and traps are mostly essential to AFK farming, especially, if you can't use lava.

Your only alternative to that would be to jump into the ocean with a blunt weapon, after consuming a battle potion, like a real manly man and fight the sharks directly.

You can upgrade it by puting darts into cascade, as if they fly from the same X coordinate they do only one damage with all darts, if you put them into cascade each of them do damage invidualy
